March 2024 Feature Car

It's always exciting to see our Canadian built cars being enjoyed in other countries. Our March feature belongs to Mats Källström who lives in Sweden. Mats was on the hunt for a convertible and found this 1964 Parisienne Custom Sport for sale at a classic car dealership. The car was in excellent shape when he found it and Mats is planning only a few upgrades. Mats tells us more:

My wife and I have been big fans of American cars since we met in my 1965 Rambler Classic in 1975. After the Rambler we had a lot of different US cars like Buick, Chevrolet, Plymouth etc. However when our kids arrived we sadly needed to change to more practical and economic (in Sweden) cars like Volvo station wagons. When the kids left we bought a really nice 1957 Dodge Royal that we cherished for 7 years.

Dodge.jpg

It was a wonderful car but we were more and more longing for a convertible. We started to search for a nice convertible from the period 1962-1965 that should be in nice condition and of a make that was easier to find spare parts for here in Sweden (the Dodge was a nightmare in that area). We saw a really nice 1965 Parisienne at a dealer only 60 miles from home, but when we got there it was sold just 30 min before. Now we were really into a Canadian Pontiacs since it was really beautiful and shared most parts with the 1964 Impala which is a car that is very easy to find parts and accessories for. Just a week later we found an ad for a skyline blue 1964 Custom Sport at another dealer close to home.

We immediately took our 57 Dodge and drove to the dealer. When we got there we saw that it had almost the exact same blue color as our Dodge  😍. We both fell in love directly and did a fair trade with our Dodge. The car was in really good condition apart from 2 small dings on the front fender and a small scratch mark on the rear. Sadly enough this was late in September and the car must go into winter storage all too soon.

We have collected some small things that we will add to the car to improve her further. We have a Retrosound stereo with bluetooth etc with new speakers (mounted in original places), some orignal decals for the engine compartment, new floor mats etc.

Otherwise we just plan to enjoy this beauty as much as possible. We will go to some big events in both Sweden and Denmark with around 4-6000 American cars each. They are 3-4 day events with rockabilly music, car shows, and cruising etc. Of course we will visit this web site often to learn more about the car. I found out that the car was originally from Regina, Saskatchewan so I joined a facebook group called "Nostalgic Regina Saskatchewan".

I was so extremely lucky that I managed to find the former owner of the car that will send me some history from the time in Canada (She was exported to Sweden 2021). A very nice gentleman mailed an owners manual that was from an old car that his father had owned ❤ There are still wonderful people out there😘. By the way, we will call her "Jackie" as short for Jaquelinne.

Only 4-6,000 at a show? Wow. A big show here in Nova Scotia is 1,000.

That is one beautiful 1964 Pontiac and glad you are appreciating and enjoying it so much.

How do I say "I absolutely love it" in Swedish? One of my favourites has always been the '64 Parisienne Custom Sport convertible ever since I spotted "Mrs. Farmer" in her Silver Blue example back around '71. In the 1960's there were four 1963 & 64 Laurentians within a few houses either way from me.

The Feature Car looks to be a fantastic survivor that hasn't had stuff swapped out in the six decades of it's existence. It looks as right as rain.
I haven't seen a Custom Sport in Skyline Blue before, although I did see a '64 Parisienne convertible in the same exterior-top-interior colours, just with a bench seat & the Parisienne brightwork back in 1985 in Greensville, Ontario.

Congratulations, Mats, from another '64 Custom Sport owner who, by the way, resides in Regina, Saskatchewan. I do not remember seeing your new ride cruising the streets of Regina. Unequivocally, the nicest Pontiac year and model ever produced. Convertible, buckets, console, rag top and correct headlight bezels, full rocker trim with the elusive end caps, complete with factory spinners! Enjoy your ride!

Beautiful car! I love the unusual colour combination and love 64 Custom Sports in general.

It will be fun seeing your car each time I come to read what's new on Canadian Poncho.

 Thanhs,

Its a 283 with 2bbl and a Powerglide behind. So im sure she will be a little lighter on the gas consumption compared to the Dodge

Hi all! Thanks for all kind words. My wife and I are very proud that you selected our car and history for this months feature car. Now its only a couple of weeks until we take her out of her winter hibernation It will be fantastic to cruise around on old roads in the spring with the top down. Its a hard waiting, but soon we are there!

Once again thanks for your kind words and all interest you shown. I will post more picture of small upgrades etc in the future. This weekend we will travel up bit up north in Sweden to collect the new wheels for her. Will ofcourse save the old ones to be able to return to original appearance.

Kind regards

Mats and Christina
