WOW! I'm not used to seeing any big figures on these cars. This one sure is a beauty though, a prime example of a '73 Grand Am. That one looks as right as rain.

Hey Ray, this bodes well for your '73 if you haven't sold it yet.

Well this would explain the $55,000 price tag on the LeMans ON kIJiJI right now.

I was discussing the 73's with an insurance appraiser a couple of weeks ago and he said these 73 Pontiacs are catching on and escalating in value, especially  the special models.

I am going to get my car back on the market soon but my goal is to get rid of it not hold out for large money.

Had a 73 Grand Am back in 82-83. 455 car with all the options available. Only problem was too many doors. Yes an optioned out 455 4 door. Same colour combo as this car. Lent it to a friend to go camping and he ran it low on oil. Developed a wicked bottom end knock then bang. Con rod through the side of the block. Through a 400 in and sold it. Never saw another like it.

In this case 4 doors was not a problem IMO. A 4 dr. 73 455 Grand Am was a very rare bird and I'd say way cooler than the car shown here. I image it had buckets and console with floor shifter, too cool.

BTW, Haggerty lists 12 sales of '73-75 Grand Ams in the past year with the highest at $22,050.USD and most recent at $14,000 USD.

Also Haggerty shows 51 sales and the highest price paid for a 73-77 LeMans in the past year is $70,400 USD with the most recent being $18,000 USD. Remember GTO and Can Am are LeMans models with the GTO and Can Am being option packages.

My 73 Grand Am did indeed have buckets drivers power with manual lumbar adjustment. Full console and shifter, cruise, automatic air, power windows, dual exhaust, rally 2 rims, posi, in fact everything except intermittent wipers. Go figure. Possibly a brass hat car. Bought it in Brampton for $1200.00 certified. At 0.35 a litre it was $50.00 a week in gas. Coolest things on the car were the stripes and the script on the deck lid that said 7.4 litre.

I seem to recall seeing bucket seats and console shift in some '73-'77 Cutlass 4-doors back in the day.  Only noticed them because that configuration wasn't popular like it is now.

The Cutlass Salon was introduced mid-year '73 as a 4-door with reclining buckets and a nice radial tuned suspension. The coupe was added for '74.

Pontiac still offered a 4-speed manual in the LeMans wagons in '73.

Chevrolet discontinued 4-speed Chevelle wagons for '73 but made an SS wagon just that year (and also a 1-year Laguna wagon), then 74-76 you could get swivel bucket seats & a console in the wagon.

Only in 73/74 did Buick offer a 455 in the Century wagons.

Yup. My friend had a '73 Cutlass with console and it had the 'swivel' bucket seat option.

The  Cutlass Salon model had the beauty seats and console and shifter in all body styles. Good friend's family car , which he was the only driver at age 17, had a nice 75, 350 Rocket. We set it up with the dual exhaust system from the '75/76 454 Caprice which was a direct bolt on converter back, much like the 84-88 Monte Carlo SS system.

GM decided to go with the European styling cues and handling due to BMW and Audi  taking market share so the Grand Am and Salon were suppose to address that marketing segment. The Grand Am got the 6.6 litre and 7.4 litre badges and The Olds got the emblem below on the front fender.

My very first car that I would have bought in around 82 after I started at Dofasco in 80 was a dark blue on blue 77 Grand AM. Found it sitting on a local car lot, was smitten with it.

Arranged a test drive along with a quick inspection by my dads mechanic. Took in in, put it up and he found all kinds of things wrong with it. The car was not as the dealer pretended it to be.

I took it back very disappointed, but before I got out of the car, I peeled a little souvenir off the dash...

Still have it to this day,

Got the "accelerated" driving course in this 77 LeMans Sport Coupe. It was my parent's car. I got my beginners license in fall of '84 and dad had a brain anurism that December. Mom was too distraught to drive so I had all the driving duty going forward. Trips to the hospital in blinding snow storms. At least we had snow tires on the back! On the bright side it looked cool crusing around on a Friday night. 350 4bbl

Going to say it was a Grand LeMans but in 77 you got the 73-75 Grand Am interior. So as GM is wont to do cancel the Grand Am at end of 75, cancel the Luxury LeMans at end of 75 and create the Grand LeMans for 76 and 77.

Maybe it was a much earlier Grand AM? I'm really not too sure anymore of the year it was. Either way, it was one that had that little emblem in it!
