68 Years and Gone in 14 hours

Built in 1956.

This was one of the last original 401 overpass bridges in Ontario.

I'm told there are still a few in the Oshawa area.

It was my job to get our buses around the 401 closure and to their destinations on time, this weekend. "All went well" I reported.

The trick was to find out where Google and the other apps were sending everyone and then send the buses a different way.

I did promiss my boss that I would not send them by my house biggrin

The replacement bridge should be done by December.

Meanwhile, it's a lot longer of a drive for me, to get to the Dorchester Cruiz night.

yes Oshawa still has a couple of old bridges.

Strangely that there are about 6 house boarded up on the north side of Wilson Rd S waiting for  demolition.  Cant forecast when that will happen.  The 401 east and west in this area is only 3 lanes each way and I suspect will get widened to get past the Bloor St exit.

The Simcoe St bridge came down a few months ago and a new section is currently under construction.  Likely 3 lanes each way.  The east bound exit for Simcoe St is a nightmare as it dumps right into Bloor St at the Simcoe St traffic  lights.. a real mess at times.

I remember a string of those old style bridges from Pickering & Ajax that are gone now. The most memorable was the Harwood bridge with its built-up ramp up to the overpass level & yet the train tracks immediately south of course were ground level. It was a memorable span, but so was the old Lake Ridge Road overpass.

Absolutely hate driving 401 near Oshawa because of those remaining bridges, they are dangerous by pinching traffic down to two lanes and offer next to no crash protection. They gotta go.
