Steering wheel pulled out about 4 inches while driving going to pull it out of the car to rebuild question is the Beaumont the same as the gto or the chevelle

As far as I know the GTO column bolts right in. The Chevelle column will likely bolt it but it won't fit correctly where the column housing (bowl, whatever you would like to call it) meets the dash.

 Yes, even if the coupler is loose it would only be about 1 1/2" at most. Good point.

Loose nut on the steering wheel would only be 1" or so at the most.

The steering shaft will come out about 4 inches when I took everything off I can push the shaft in all the way in past the base

Going to be tricky pulling the steering shaft out with headers though but it is not safe the way it is now

What do you see under the hood where the shaft meets the steering box? I assume the flange is tight there? 

I don't know the 67 columns very well, (much different vs 66 and older) but is it something to do with the telescoping part on the lower shaft?

67 first year for collapsible. The center is hollow. So could be telescoping. Also on a side note with 67 columns Got to be careful with lower bearing wearing the shaft where it comes out the firewall. Can wear completely thru. Just a heads up. Not meaning to derail this thread.

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH.  The other one has a longer roof.

After taking it out of the car I found the bearing was completely gone must be on a road somewhere and the plate that holds the direction signal got loose and turned enough to slide forward that was the 3 or 4 inches so order new bearing put it together on the bench than install
