The state of poor quality parts today, rant,

Quality is such today that one cannot even get an old style gas cap that isn't suspect.

The non vented original AC gas cap on the 69 had become "vented" as the seal had basically dried up as expected after 50 plus years. The cap more or less just sat on the tube loose. And when the tank was full, 100% gas came out the cap when you pulled away rapidly.

So easy, right? Just pop down to Carquest and grab one. Sure, but it'll take a day. Fine.

Arrives the next day, out of the box and right onto the tank. Nice. Secure, no problems, I'm good.

Fast forward a week later to today, I get gas. The cap comes off fine but won't turn back on the tube. Hmm.

Look close...The neoprene (or old shoe) that they make the seal out of had swollen up to the size it would no longer sit inside the cap and was all folded up. A gas cap...that isn't fuel resistant. furious

And of course, the bill is gone. And I threw the original away....

Where can I get a nice non vented cap. Maybe even a shiny one that says AC on it?

A gas cap seal that isn't fuel resistant. Wow, impressive. And let me guess, it looked very nice out of the box, like so much of the poorly made junk available to us for our old cars.

I got something today that was made in Vietnam. I haven't seen that very often.
