Wanted: Oil Pump for 1960 Strato Chief

Anyone know where I can find one?  Or at least the model number to help me hunt around.  Much obliged. . Jeff.

So I'm hunting around for this oil pump and I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing. lol, so looking for some expertise advice! Mechanic advises on a new oil pump PLUS the gasket. Does anyone know where I can get one for my 1960 Pontiac Strato-Chief? It's a 261, 6 cylinder engine. Also: I know many have mentioned to be careful about the Canadian version vs. American version. Does this also apply to the engine itself? Thank you all! Cheers, Jeff

I checked the GM parts books.

Oil pump part number was 3786293

Pan gasket part number was 3714551

These parts are the same as 58-62 Chevrolet car with a 235. I would suggest you use that for parts look up or if you phone around because it will be much easier to find a listing than for Canadian Pontiac.

I went to the Rock Auto site and got this-

3786293 changes to a Melling M45

3714551 changes to a Fel Pro OS5153C

If you try your local parts stores with those numbers you may have success, hard to say. If not, Rock Auto has them both available and you would have them in about a week.

Carl, almost everything 261 is the same as a 235 on the engines, like water pumps, manifolds, carbs, gaskets? What is likely different?

I don't know those engines very well so I thought I better post that at least this stuff is the same. It may be as simple as only difference being displacement maybe?

As I remember 261's had steam holes in the cyl. head,  could be drilled in a 235 head.

Both had very unusual combustion chambers compared to later Engines.

Thanks
Randy

You're very welcome, I love doing this stuff. 40 years as a GM parts guy and 4 years of doing a parts store before that. It's hard to get out of the system, especially now that I'm retired, I have even more time to do it. And this is the fun stuff. Lots more fun than looking up a throttle position sensor for a 15 year old Silverado!
