Untraceable Mileage Blocker/Odometer Stopper.

Isn't This Illegal ? How Can You Prove It If It's Untraceable ?

Im thinking modern automotive electronics would throw a hissy fit if you stopped tracking mileage. Most new cars do mpg or litres/100 km calculations, countdown on oil change & maintenance cycles etc etc. I suppose this might just keep feeding the ECU (and PCM, TCM, BCM ) the last reading over and over
I assume this would be illegal here, but I see this company is in Europe. Likely illegal there too, but, only if you get caught I guess.

Scanners can reset the mileage on odometers... It's happening every day !!
Even easier than rolling back the old manual clocks.

The interesting thing is, when I was still working at the dealership, the digital cluster on our 2009 G8 GT went black. I knew the car had approximately 198,000 kms but didn't know exactly.

I bought a nice used cluster. Plugged it in, it lit up and now my car had 49,000 kms! No problem I thought, our dealership tools will reset it. Nope, none of the GM tools could to it.

I called every place that I knew that rebuilds clusters, trying to find someone who could bump the mileage up from 49,000 to 198,000. Nobody could do it including the company who did our warranty exchange clusters etc.

All I had was a work order from the dealership showing the cluster was installed at 49,XXX kms when the actual mileage was approximately 198,000 kms. When I sold the car, I checked the box on the ownership document (TOD in Manitoba) that stated "mileage shown is not accurate, true mileage unknown" or something to that effect.

I was worried that somewhere along the way someone will buy that car thinking they just bought a low mileage G8 GT. Thankfully, I know the young man who bought it (he's actually a distant cousin) and at this point he has no intention of selling it (and he can't scam anyone on mileage even if he wants to).

I've had guys tell me the mileage is stored in the PCM and when you plug in the used cluster the correct vehicle mileage will show. I can confirm that for G8 at least that is not true.

A few years ago i sold my wifes used car to some very nice Ukrainian people that moved here to thunder bay as they had lost everything in the war .They spoke very little English. They liked the car and asked if they could check it with the scan tool they brought the .first test was to see if the odometer matched the Brain {computer}. According to them the speedo can say whatever it wants but the scan tool will always show the original mileage. it was fine and they bought the car. By the sound of it the tool in this post dosnt let the miles accumulate ,whole different story.
