And now for something a little different. My brother-inlaw purchased a gift certificate at a charity auction for an Exotic Car Driving Experience and asked me to join him. I jumped at the chance.
This was a 3 hour tour through the Niagara Escarpment. There were 4 cars and we each got a chance to drive each car for awhile. They had all the cars set in "Sport" automatic mode or you could drive in Manual mode with paddles shifters (which is what I did mostly). The Porsche was the lowest HP rating at 455 hp and the Lambo highest at nearly 600 hp. The other were in the 500+ hp range.
There was a leading and trailing SUV and each car had walkie talkies in each to communicate if necessary.
Here's my take on each of the cars, in the order of my preference (least to best):
Audi R8 -> This car was the nastiest and noisiest by far. Upshifts and downshifts were very aggressive and it car felt almost uncontrollable. Fun though.
Mercedes AMG -> This was the heaviest car with a long nose and gobs of power. Not very nimble, but more like an old style muscle car.
Lambo -> This one surprised me. I expected quirky and uncomfortable, but it turned out to be quite comfortable and polished. Weird front window view though.
Porsche Carrera 4S -> My favorite. Best drivability, comfortable, nimble and gobs of power. The instructor winked at me and told me about a special "launch" button that when pushed drops the gear a couple of notches, open the exhaust chambers and gives me 20 seconds to stomp on it. Oh man, what a rush.
Anyways, it was a fun afternoon. They mix the cars up sometimes to include a Ferrari and a Corvette. Would have like to try the Ferrari. They had a warehouse next door, where I found the obligatory Pontiac rat rod.
