I wonder how many Laurentians were made in police configuration?

Good question Mark. Could you get a 454 in a Laurentian in 1971 or a Chevy 400?

According to this table, you could get 400s and 455s.  Not sure I've ever seen a Laurentian with a 455, though.  Also not sure if the 400s are both Pontiacs, Chevys, or one of each?

The Wentworh County (Ancaster) Police had a 1971 Laurentian black & white cruiser that looked like the Laurentian above. It just had the base 350.

The car was destroyed during an ice storm in March 1972 & the driver killed, though the passenger, Constable Joy, survived (he is a nice guy).

A pair of blue & white 1973 AMC Ambassador police cars with 401 power & full LAPD Matador chassis upgrades were purchased to replaced the wrecked Laurentian and the unmarked '70 Ford Custom. Within a few months they were removed from the Ancaster fleet & used in downtown Hamilton, since Wentworth County was folded into Hamilton-Wentworth Region in 1973. I saw one decommissioned and for sale at Bay-King Motors in 1978.

When I was stationed in Weyburn, SK we had a 1972 Laurentian with the 455 interceptor package. It had a great top end and a crazy amount of torque! If we used it at lot in the stop and go full throttle stuff while running radar, the exhaust manifold would crack before the 8 hr shift was over.

My brother and I got our hands on a 71 Chevy Biscayne, a former RCMP highway interceptor. The 454, turbo 400 was geared so low you couldnt coax a chirp out of the tires from a dead start, but put the pedal to the matt at 60 and you were pushed back in your seat all the way to the top of the 140 mph speedo.

I always thought my Nova would be able to run me out of trouble until we got that beast!

Glenn were you in Weyburn in 1970. These photos are from there.

Thanks for sharing the photos.  I was there 11 months 74-75.  This is not the same car. The door crest is different; the model name is on the rear quarter in the photo and the logo says 454.  In my initial post I said it was a 72 but in hindsight I think it was 1973.  The model logo was on front fender just behind the tire and it had a 455.

I know it's not the same car. This is a 70, but at the Weyburn detachment. I wondered if you were there in 70. The guy who shared these photos with me drove this car. It was his first posting. After he retired, he and his brothers had an auto wrecking yard in Penticton BC. A-1 Auto Salvage.
Some interesting things about this car is that it was the pilot car for the RCMP for testing radial tires. He told me that they went through several sets on this car as the manufacturer sorted them out. You can see that they appear oversized, and on a car that already had 2 series gears, it was slow off the line but had more top end.

The guy who sent you these photos would be the same guy who owned, probably still does, at 1956 Fairlane Woody, green in colour.  Please say hi to Larry for me.  He's a great guy!

We had an ex unmarked RCMP pursuit car, a 1970 Pontiac strato chief 454 LS4 when I was a kid..like the one in the picture but never had lights.just zippers in the roof liner inside. A super cool and pretty fast car even with a factory 2:73 rear end !!!

You gotta wonder if any of these big block police cars survive today.
