1970 Pontiac 2+2 convertible for sale

This is tough decision for me as it was my dads car..I prefer that it be sold to a Pontiac enthusiast hence the ad is being posted here. I am not in a rush to sell and have decided that $30k is a reasonable price. I have included most of the updates and work done on the car over the last 10 years. My recollection that it was only driven two winters in its life and that dates back to the 70s. Please PM me with any other information you need. My thanks to many members in this forum who have assisted me over the years.your help and guidance is very much appreciated :)

1970 Pontiac 2+2, convertible, 400 cu inch chevy small block, 350 turbo hydramatic tranny, 4 bolt main, forged crankshaft, Impala SS interior with console and floor shift. Very low production, only 274 2+2 convertibles made and very rare 400 cu inch engine, less than 20% of total engine production in the coupes. No data available from GM of the 400 cu inch production in the 2+2 convertibles but suspect production is very low, perhaps high single or low double digits. I personally have never seen another one but they may be out there !

- In my family since 1973, original sale from GM diplomatic sales in Oshawa.

- Original owner an FBI agent assigned to the U.S. embassy in Ottawa. I have documentation to support that.

- Full restoration done in 2013, new top, full interior, dual stainless exhaust, rebuilt rad, body/paint, tires, brakes, rotors/springs, shocks. Tranny rebuilt in 2016, some engine and front end work done during the initial restoration. New chrome - front and rear bumpers - done by Cambridge chrome, stainless trim all removed and polished other than the windshield trim. New tires and 8 inch rims added to the rear. Rust was repaired on the bottoms of the doors and rear quarter panels. A small repair on the trunk as well. The rest of the body was in good condition at the time of the restoration.

- Engine rebuilt in 2020, engine pulled from the car and stripped down, compression was good, top end only done, as valve guides were worn and fouling two plugs, new timing chain, oil pump, cam and lifters, original heads rebuilt, (Beatty and woods)rear main bearing and other oil seals replaced. Bottom end - pistons/rings, crank, bearings all good. Added a four barrel Rochester period correct carb. ( thanks Clint ) Also fully rebuilt the entire front end, control arm bushings, ball joints, shocks, tie rods etc.

- Floorpans, frame all original and in excellent condition.

- Car looks and runs great, not a show car but it presents very well and is a good driver.

Very nice. It would have been nice to feature it.

Sorry Todd, It was featured in sept 2020.should have mentioned that. I also corrected the tranny rebuild date from 2015 in the post to 2016 and the body/paint/interior from 2014 to 2013. The engine rebuild was correctly stated as 2020.

I saw this car last week. It's a beauty in every way, and if I was still looking for a rag, this could have been mine.

Can't be more than a handful with the 400.

After I posted that I thought maybe we had. After featuring about 180 cars it's easy to forget one or two.

The next owner will be very happy with your 2+2!

Beautiful car, and I'll bet the 400 is even more rare than the 454!

I love your '70 2+2. I wish I had a large arena to store all the cool cars such as yours in a collection. Drive it on a warm day any time of year (except brine season) with the top down.

The 2-barrel 400 LF6 was quite a compact torque motor. It matched the advertised figures of 1969's L66 396 but was 100+ lbs lighter. It would do very well in a tow vehicle. In it's first year, 1970, you could order dual exhausts for it on your Chevrolet or Canadian Pontiac. Here's an ad for a U.S Chevrolet 400 promotion:

Ya, but Chevrolet didn't offer buckets / console like the 2+2!

Around 1971 Chevy was toying with the idea of doing a hot Z28-ized 400 to replace the LS3 402 for the Camaro SS 396 (I know eh laughing.gif ). The engineering crisis surrounding emissions compliance, and the budget that went with it, shelved the idea.

Quadrajet 4-barrel carbs first made it onto production 400s federally on the 1974 Big Chevy wagons.

I often make comparisons of the 1967-1970 Canadian Pontiac 2+2's to the Impala SS. Unfortunately, there was no 1970 Impala SS, so the 2+2 was on its own.
A very unique feature of the 70 2+2 is the small latch on the console door. It looks like it's from someone's clarinet case, but is correct.

Neat. I never noticed that Clint.

Adding to that, was 70 the first year CP to have the Strato Console painted in that lighter sandy tone? I've not seen a 69 in the lighter parchment, just red and maybe blue. I really do like it in something other than black.

The interior trim is Sandalwood. It's similar to Parchment, but less sparkly and a bit darker. My 2+2's are both Sandalwood.
