68 Parisienne 396, thinking of taking a look

 https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/kawartha-lakes/price-reduced-1968-parisienne/1706745869

Thinking of taking a look at the above Pontiac. I have talked to the seller, the seller bought the car over 20 years ago and it hasn't really been driven since. Just started and drove around his property then back into storage. He says it's rust free and in very good shape, the vinyl roof has been peeled off to inspect for rust. He said it will likely need things such as tires, vinyl roof, interior work. I would suspect from previous experience from other vehicles, that there would be a high probability of also needing items such as coolant lines, fuel lines, brake lines, seals etc. The seller reduced the price from 12,000 to 11,000. Realistically is this seller asking to high? Or is it still a deal at this price? I haven't seen a 68 coupe with 396 A/C, PW, etc.

I see PW/PDL/Air, 2 upper switches on the dash, defog, maybe tilt.

If it's solid underneath, then yes 11k is a good price I'd say. Rusty frame and floors, not so much.

I'd be really excited, I bet you are.

Wow, does it have power locks too? That is super rare...

Man, if it truly is a rust free car it's sure worth taking a look.

As far as value, tough call without seeing it and doing a good inspection but my guess is it would have to be the right guy to fetch $12,000 although he's likely not far off. I'm NOT slamming the car, just saying my personal opinion of what the market would bear on this one.

For the record, the seller is a member here but I don't know how often he reads here.

My big block LeMans was/is in way better condition that that car, Id say that's a $7,500 car.

In this day and age a numbers matching 325hp 396 Poncho without any rust is worth that $$ all day long.

No denying that but the demand for the 2 vehicles is at a different level, no question. The market is just not the same for 70's cars vs 60's cars. It likely will be some day but certainly not yet.

I got to agree with Ray, the car is overpriced.  GOT to find a B body guy to buy it, $11K is a stretch in Ontario. But you don't know till you go look....

When did PDL start on these cars? That must have been the very first year for PDL and they would have been vacuum. I thought 1969 was the first year / last year for vacuum PDL.

Burnished Saddle with a black vinyl roof cover, I remember a 1968 2+2 with that combo back around 1980 at school. It was showroom condition.

Thanks for the replies. I am normally someone who negotiates in person but I may have to call and ask what the bottom dollar is. It is a bit of a drive for me especially if I am towing a car hauler. I find a lot of classics right now prices seem to be all over. It also has single exhaust according to the seller, (another buyer looked at it and commented on it) kind of a shame to not let the 396 breathe. Seeing as it was painted in 1977, I would suspect the lower rear quarter probably have filler.

Might give an idea on how the '68 is priced, in comparison?

You should see if there is a member close that might look at it for you. I would, but it's just out of my range.

In my mind, I don't understand how a BB 68 with a decent option list (rare with air) could be considered a stretch at 11k.  Of course, 100% the condition is everything here, and yes, it needs to be a CP lover, but that's exactly the idea here.

I know a person here that if 66 wasn't their year and 68 was, would be all over this getting the trailer ready...
