Boy, I bought the Milwaukee Fuel 18 volt High Torque impact about 2-3 years ago and I can't imagine life without it. I just can't find a rusty bolt it won't either break loose or snap off. I'm so impressed with it.

At the time I bought it, it was the highest torque spec listed for a cordless 1/2" impact and I sure believe it, it's amazing. I often work taking apart rusty old stuff and it's been a life saver many many times.

I don't doubt that the Dewalt is good also but for me it's red tools!

I have the DeWalt and have had bolts that it wouldnt loosen (eg: the cradle bolts on my winter car). A mechanic friend has the Milwaukee and he deals with a lot of siezed bolts and it's never let him down.

In a weird way, Todd is to blame for me being so convinced the Fuel 18 is the impact to buy.

A few years ago he needed a frame crossmember for his red truck. My friend about 10 minutes from here had a junk truck with a crossmember in it and I went out to help him remove it from the truck. When I was there helping him he was using his impact to remove some rusty old bolts and my jaw dropped when I saw what it could do. I bought myself one very soon after that and use it often. It's a great tool in wrecking yards. Beaumontguru and I pulled a set of disc brakes off an early Monte a couple of weeks ago and it was a good tool to have for that job. It's particularly suited for rusty suspension/chassis bolts if you live in the rust belt.

This is what I want to hear! I like real world experiences being told. When I moved to Florida, I lost a lot of garage space and have been going cordless in an effort to get more space by removing the compressor. Cordless tools are so fast and easy to use. Appreciate you sharing your experiences as I only wan to make the best decision, with no regrets. Thanks!

I have a snap on hd-it kicks butt seriously -have taken hundreds of sets of seat belts out of old rusty cars-they either come out or they snap off.

Ya big red makes it or breaks it. 1000 ft lbs on and 1400 ft lbs off. I also have the Dewalt , no where as strong but a lot less weight , user friendly for average jobs

Yes, I would say that is the only negative about the big red machine, it's heavy.

Sometimes if I use it for a job that doesn't require its full capability I put a smaller battery on it to help with the weight.

Thanks guys. I noticed that both tools weigh about the same, but its the battery size that adds the weight. Time to start shopping for the red one!

I think there's more than one model of Fuel 18v 1/2" impact, at least if I remember right. It seems to me there's maybe 2 or 3 levels when you look at the torque specs?

Yes, Ive found a high torque and a mid torque.

Just be aware that there was a recall on some 1/2 drive Milwaukee impacts. Apparently the ones sold in the kits werent affected, only the tool only sales.

Mine is a Milwaukee 2767-20 mentioned in the article, but with the H96A serial # so I'm ok.

A couple years ago a buddy was attending the car show at KMS Tools, and won a 2 pack of Milwaukee Fuel 18V Impact guns, both the 1/2" 2767-20 & 3/8" 2960-20, with batteries, charger & tote bag.

He had a bunch of Milwaukee tools and these could be spared, so we did a deal where I paid him 50% retail.

Win-Win situation!!

Good to know! You would think the stores would have to pull the affected ones off of the shelves, but who knows? I will make sure I get a good serial number.

I'm not sure the 2767-20 models are still available. I think Milwaukee has moved on to newer models.

Looks like its still available, but maybe theyre planning on discontinuing.

I know theyre still available in stores - I just bought one just a couple minutes ago. Ill be checking the serial number when it arrives. You guys are costing me money!

Seriously though, thanks for the recommendations. Ive been looking at these for quite awhile but wasnt sure which one to get. Im already vested in the Red brand, so Im set for batteries. This should easily twist off any bolts I might need to loosen

Anybody want to buy an electric, 120V 1/2 inch impact? How about a pneumatic one?

I personally like the Milwaukee M12 line;
I am not too big on power tools, but the sheer diversity of tools that can use these batteries is staggering... and there are a myriad of different "M12" batteries that Milwaukee offers too (just watch out for fakes on the jungle website!).

The thing I didn't like about the M12 stuff is not enough power for those big rusty suspension/chassis bolts. The Milwaukee impact is far superior to the Chicago Pneumatic 1/2" air tool I used to use (sold it about 6 months after I got the red impact, I never use it)
