1966 Grand Prix-Grande Parisienne

Carl    is this seat belt retractor on this Grand Prix..   used on a Grande Parisienne ?

I will be putting in the belts you included with the car

Wondering about the retractors...  even though both cars share the same parts (some would disagree)

I didn't want to get points deducted at the local concours d'elegance   biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

My entry level Strato Chief has the bare belts laying on the floor

Those are the same as the ones that came on my Grande Parisienne and I'm quite sure they were original. I'll take a pic if you like.

If I'm not mistaken, those retractors didn't come out until '67, I like them better than the metal ones, these tuck the belts away nicely

I think mine might have a slightly different shape.  Once I finish cooking supper I'll have to take a look.

This is what mine looks like. They were on the car when I got it and had been for a long time.  Not sure if they were original.  I believe that car was owned by the wife of a dealer so maybe it was fitted later with these.  They suit it though.

There's a 66 Laurentian in the local junk-yard, I'll take a look to see what it has.

Easy guys

66 deluxe seat belts as pictured in the top example are correct and so are the lower ones.Deluxe seat belt retractors have one casing and standard has another.Lower pictures are standard seat belts

So they had plastic covered retractors in 66?

I learned something new today, and I'm not surprised you're the one to educate me on seat belts John!

The seat belts options in 66 have always confused me a bit and this thread is so far maintaining that.

When my dad bought the 66 Parisienne new he paid a bit extra for the deluxe belts. Those are the ones with the metal GM badges on the top. We also got the Round metal belt retractors with that setup.

So you could get belts in 66 a bunch of different ways?

- The standard plastic buckle GM belt without retractors.

-The deluxe belt with the metal GM badge with the metal retractors.

-The "Standard" retractosr with Metal GM badge belts (Like on my 66 Grande)

-The deluxe retractors with Metal GM badge belts like on the first picture 427 Carl posted.

I'll have to take another look at the brochures, the parts book and the option listing for 66 (unless somebody out there actually knows for sure.)

Ya maybe part number book shed some light. I do know for fact, the covered retractors were not available on 66chevelles, full-size cars are a different breed, they usually got more deluxe as you say interiors. If I'm not mistaken '66 impala caprice had the covered retractors, in '65 impala still had metal ones . I put the covered ones in my 65, they look nicer

The 66 Laurentian at Buck's in Calgary just has the chrome retractors within the belt.  There probably was nothing, and those were added later.

My Dad bought a '65 Impala SS new and it NO retractors. Front seat belts only also. All kinds of options, I guess.

You could get retractors prior to '66, but they looked like this (my car has them):

I'm quite sure the metal ones are 64-66 only, covered ones 67 onwards

You're welcome, do you need more? Since you help everyone on poncho, greatly appreciated, I have some that I probably won't be using.

I'm not sure but some time ago Carl S was assembling seatbelts etc. for that car and i sent him some stuff including the metal retractors from my dad's old 66 Parisienne so you may have those.  That would be kind of neat, and correct to boot!

That would be the ones Ken. Whatever I got from you for the white car went along with it (only the famous spare tire didn't go with the car......)

I forgot to sent it along and somebody won't let me forget that!

Wow that's neat that 427 carl should end up with those although he should be warned that I seem to remember thowing up on one or both of those when i was about 11 years due to carsickness.  (Actually it was probably from the haze of smoke in the car since both my parents smoked.

By the way i looked in the option list for Candian Pontiacs in 1966 and there was only one option called A39 -"Deluxe front and rear" -Metal badge GM logo- "retractors on front belts only")

I assume then that the ones on my car were added later as they don't look like the metal retractors

I think that means the metal badge GM logo on the buckle and also that there are retractors on the front belts.

I don't think they intended it to mean metal retractors.

Just guessing though.

Like I said Carl My dad ordered the car on October 29th 1965 with the deluxe belts and he got the GM badged belts with the metal retractors.

I'll attach his order form.

My 66 was built on October 26 1965 and came with option A39 and has the  Gm badged belts with plastic retractors.

Still cant quite figure it out.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I don't know then.

Hopefully someone here can solve this.

I'll go sleep on it now!
