She was running a little rough on the way home from buying her, which is fine.....I guess. Two days after I bought her, I left for vacation ( Not in my Parisienne) to Montreal to see my grandma who turned 95! When we got home, my dad was here, so we started her and she is running rough. My dad a mechanic from the old days, starts pulling wire off the distributor, first one he pulls off and we hear no change in the sound of how she was running, it was cyl 7. We pulled a few more and you could hear the engine slow down. So I go buy plugs and wires, and tonight my son and I had time to work on her. Compression test was looking great cyl 7 was around 190, all other in that range. Of course until we get to the final cyl which was #2. 80 psi..... Damn. I pulled of the valve cover to have a quick peek and everything I could see was fine. Cranked her over and everything looked fine. So need to dig deeper I guess. Maybe I will buy a borescope and have a look in the cyl. I had intended to rebuild the engine at some point, but was hoping I could wait for a year or more if she would run okay. Now to decide what to do.....Just heads for now or just do the whole engine....hmmmmm. She is a 327.
Dang, still might be a valve seat? How many miles? Was it sitting long before you got it? Has it ever been rebuilt do you know? How's your budget for rebuilding? My 327 has been sitting for several years now, wondering if it will need to be freshened up. ;) Good luck on it.
With engine warmed up pull the plugs again and squirt oil into the weak cylinder. Compression goes up, weak rings. Compression stays roughly the same, burnt valve or lost a lobe on the cam.
