I had my '66 Beaumont at a car show this evening. A fella asked me why I had removed the factory Ram Horn exhaust manifolds. I indicated that I had not, and that the current manifolds were in fact the originals.
If memory serves me, I believe that unlike the Nova's, there is a clearance issue with the Ram Horns in the '66 Chevelles and Beaumonts? I've searched for a thread on the Poncho site, but without any luck. As my exhaust is in need (overdue actually) of being re-done, it begs the question...Are there specific Ram Horns that would fit and would be recommended? Also, are both 2" and 2.5" options available, and if so, is one recommended over the other?
I am not aware of the under-the-plug style performance manifolds. I don't think they had any variations on them like they did on the Rams.
As a perfect example, a 65 L79 Beaumont used 283 manifolds!
And to clarify, the L79 Nova in 66 also used the same Ram manifold as a 283.
However, the earlier year Impalas with a 300 horse 327 used the 2 1/2" Ram manifold but they didn't fit the Nova, at least on the passenger side. Some guys have installed them in Novas but they rattle on the inner fender on the right side. It always seemed funny that an L79 used a 2" outlet and the 50 horse less 327 used 2 1/2".

I think they were developed for circle track racing where stock manifolds are called for. The look like stock log manifolds but they flow better, plus they don't leak like headers often do. That, plus they are totally incognito.
