Punching/Cutting hole for rocker switch in 69 dash
(Preview)
I have an NOS dash going in my convertible, which means I need to cut the single hole for the Top switch. I believe the assembly manual has the location and dimension data, but how can I cut a sharp square hole without scratching the rest of that aluminum trim or buggering up the plastic dash? Anyone do...

Anyone need this emblem? 1970 I think.
(Preview)
I bought this years ago for my 69, back in the days of text listings before pictures! I think it might be a 1970, but I'm not sure. If someone is restoring a car that needs it, let me know. I can hang onto it as a spare as well as the next guy, but if someone's got a use for it in an active restoration, let me know...

Rally wheels for 1967 Parisienne
(Preview)
I have decided to take the 14 inch wheels and white wall radial tires off my gold 1967 coupe and put them on the black 1966 car for the time being. Im thinking of putting the Chevy or Corvette rally wheels on the gold car just for cruising around. I have a question about proper size and backspacing. If I w...

Why does the MILES speedo say KILO ASSEMBLY on it?
(Preview)
This is straight out of the US Catalina, not some French-Canadian car... and it also says "KILO ASSEMBLY" on the speedo face. You can't see it unless you open the cluster, I think. I cannot figure this out. I don't know why it says KILOS and I don't know why I can't find that part number anywhere! Doesn'...

Subtle tach and gauges
(Preview)
Out 69s have no instrumentation, just idiot lights. And in fact there's NO tach for four speed cars even! Has anyone got any ideas for how to discretely mount gauges? Like inside the glovebox maybe? No AC, so lots of room back there. I would like a tach, but can't do the old "hose clamp to the steering c...

Nice random 1970 rear... (US car)
(Preview)
Usually when I see 70s now, if I see them at all, they're the US Bonnevilles that are really "busy" with added tail light decoration and so on. I stumbled across this one and thought it was really nice and plain, likely because it's a Catalina. Back in Saskatchewan in 1970 my Dad had a '69 Laurentian and m...

USA vs Canada two-tone trim
(Preview)
Although the actual body part (rear quarter) seems the same so far, a lot of attaching pieces are not. One of the most obvious differences is in the two-tone trim that separates the roof from the body, unless this US car has some aftermarket piece. The US trim follows the TOP of the window body line, whe...

Need a good mechanical big block pump in a hurry
(Preview)
The mechanical pump that happened to come with my engine tapped out at 300hp; we ran it electric and it made 402! I want to get a good mechanical and then run it with the actual pump I'll be using and verify it on the dyno, but I'd need it by Monday. All the pumps I can find on Amazon and Rockauto only have an in...

Going from four speed to automatic
(Preview)
Heresy, I know, but I'm considering it! Once my real four speed 2+2 is well underway, since I'm doing it entirely stock, I'm considering changing my black car from a 5-speed stick over to an overdrive automatic. I'd do EFI at the same time. I'd like to make it into a turnkey cruiser and make it really d...

Bought a '69 Catalina
(Preview)
I bought my third full-size 69 in the last year yesterday, a Catalina parts car to use on my 2+2 restoration. I sure do hope those rear quarters interchange! Otherwise I just spent $1200 on wheel opening moldings. Would have been so much better if I could have found a non-rusty Canadian car, but are th...

What would super-bright blue LEDs look like in a 69 cluster?

Short answer, very blue. Very, very blue. Too blue. Enough that I prefer stock, but it was a fun experiment! I got the PCBs from Clint and started to rehab the clusters I have...

Steering column reassembly
(Preview)
I was taking my column apart yesterday and couldn't get the ignition switch out. Pushed in the retainer, but it just wouldn't slide out. I fought with it for an hour and then took it to my friend's shop for him to look at. He had to fight with it too, ultimately yanking it out with a lag bolt and slide hamm...

WTB Canadian version of 65 B body rear antenna assembly, front antenna ok too since most parts are the same
(Preview)
NOS or used, whatever you have so I can replace my US Chevy 986103 rear antenna setup with chrome nut and fat mast. It's the one with the black plastic nut that fits a skinny mast. Also looking for an original Ward/Ancoa rear antenna cable. Aftermarket cables don't match the threads on an original anten...

1969 Cluster School
(Preview)
I've never had a problem with my cluster (by which I mean the black plastic housing the holds the speedo and heater controls and so on) warping, but it seems like a big deal in the US. I've also heard that they changed something by adding a steel reinforcement, but that caused a crack instead of a bend, or s...

Camshaft Trivia (1969)
(Preview)
I bought the Crane blueprint series cam for my 427/390 and was looking at the original GM cam specs, and I was really surprised how they reuse cams from motor to motor. For example, the 3874872 cam: The 3874872 has a duration of 197/197 and a lift of only .398, so to say it's a mild cam is an understatemen...
