65 Acadian Canso dash uniqueness


I am wondering how many Canso owners are aware that the SD cars have a unique cluster. It is not the same as the Nova SS like I thought for some years. The gauges have different markings on them. The SD gauge has dots, the SS gauge has lines. Also, the hole for the clock in the center is smaller.

so is the darn clock, so you cannot use a Repo Chevy II clock !!
In 63 SD the guages had lines

True. For a long time, I was seeing 63 SD's with the line gauges and I thought guys had a fake SD or else had put Nova gauges in their cluster!

Not to offend Nova owners but I really think the Acadian cluster with the small clock is much much nicer, with one exception-

I am contemplating putting a Nova bezel into my 65 SD. If I do, I would put in the SD speedo and gauges with the dots instead of the lines and buy a repro Nova in dash tach.

At least my clock will be right twice a day !!
when i have nothing to do one day, i will remove the clock and see if i can figure
out why it spins fast (like a stopwatch) instead of ticking..
at least i finally found the Knob for it..

So they were both for a GM but 1 was used on Novas only   Cool...

Yes.

An interesting note as well. The 65 Acadian owner's manual is a slightly redone version of the 65 Nova owner's manual. It shows an in dash factory tach available in an Acadian but that is obviously incorrect.

Carl --- before you try the mix-n-match of nova & acadian guages , please note they are also a different colour -- nova are black, acadian have a blue tint to them -- Menno

Am I seeing the dash signal indicaters in a diff.location as well, from Nova to Acadian. Thought the dash was the same other than badging??/ That shows you what "thought" can do!!!!!

Yup, same unit physically, just has lights instead of gauges.

You could easily add gauges to that. The only problem would be with finding the correct Canso gauges with the dot markings instead of the lines. You could always add Nova gauges and change the speedo head to Nova to match the gauges.
