It should be JE. It's likely a typo. If you contact George at VVS he should be able to check it and correct it. He made a mistake on one of mine and he sent me the new one for free.

Brad,
His block has 4W on it. It is the original block with his VIN number stamped on it. According to two sources 4W decodes to a 68 Chevelle 396/350 with an auto trans.

Well, I Called George today. His records show JW. Whether it was a mistake or not, he doesnt seem to inclined to change it even knowing there is no JW out there. hmm

Hi Pat
I understand where George is coming from because he can only pass along the information that he has as fact.
I have no doubt that it is the correct motor. The VIN is stamped in the pad beside the date code and engine suffix and that will verify that it is correct. If someone doubts you and thinks it has been restamped why would anyone stamp it incorrectly? Just one digit off.
GM or any company for that matter are not perfect and mistakes were made. We all know that and I have GM docs at home with contradicting information to prove it. A lot of information back in 68 was still handwritten and can be difficult to read sometimes. JW 4W
Have a look at the production sheet for the 67 Beaumont under "Beaumont Registry" and look at the date stamps on the engines. The 1st engine reads K0212CQ. Feb 12. All the other engines with the same suffix are dated K1212CQ. The 6th engine down reads  K11212CQ. What date is that? 112th month, 12th day or 11th month 212th day.
Personally I would maintain that it is the numbers matching motor and hope that the potential buyer understands that big companies like General Motors did make mistakes.
 Hope this helps.
 Brad

My Beaumont came with a ET Suffix code; I also know of a 4T Code

I have a '68 engine with the 4T designation. It's supposed to be and L35 4 speed Chevelle engine. May the same for a Beaumont but don't quote me.
