Beaumont Registry

Numbers_guy wrote:

Hey SD396,

I've been documenting these cars for quite sometime. I'd be happy to discuss with you a registry of some type. I've had many people send me information on their cars with out any privacy issues. I believe if you're trying to help folks restore and maintain these cars then someone has to "step up to the plate" and be the resource.

I've been doing just that with our club for the last thirteen years. Not one piece of specific information about someone else's car is supplied without the owner being the one doing it.
I have qutie a number of buildsheets on a multitude of cars that doesn't mean I'm just handing out information on a whim.

If you like check me out. I've been dealing with George Zappora and Frank Acqueci (Vintage Vehicle Servies) since 1991 when they took over from Roy Mercier. I've helped document cars that were built in Oshawa and then exported all over the world among many others. I've met both of them personally the last three of four years at AutoFest in Oshawa (2004-2006).

I probably have one of the bigger files at Vintage Vehicle services having paid for close to one hundred cars to be documented. I'm no "fly by nighter" or "wingnut", I'm an enthusuiast who enjoys learning more about the Canadian built cars and assisting folks in learning as much about their cars as possible.

 Hi Dave
It's not necessary to check you out. We have some mutual friends so I know who you are.
It may have been you that responded to one of my requests looking for information on my 69. I placed a couple of post on different sites looking for anyone that had B79 on the cowl tag of their Beaumont. I did get a few responses from people.
I think a Beaumont registry would be a great idea. I get a lot of people asking how many of a certain model were built or how many in a certain colour. I would be interested in setting something up. Do you mind if I ask why you haven't done it?
Respond here, PM me or email me.
 Thanks, Brad

Hi Brad,

Sorry for the length of this post, I feel strongly that you have make sure people know who their dealing with and where that person stands on the subject.

I spent the last seventeen years trying to pull together as much information as possible about Canadian built Chevelles and Beaumonts.  This included many summer trips out into the great Canadian landsacpe to meet members of my club, see local cars I'd never see otherwise and document all the cars that I could.

I been to as many salvage yards, car shows, and personal collections that I could find from Victoria, BC to Ottawa, Ontario and all the places in between.  Collecting information of these cars.   When I returned from my trips I had all this raw data to enter into my computer as well as "VIN decoding emails" to catch up on while I was away.

I also used to be the president of our club, web master of sorts (the real web wizards is Al McKenzie), writer, editor and publisher of our club magazine and offical Chevelle/Beaumont/Sprint/El Camino historian.   I'm the guy that answers many of the my car has the following... type questions.

Now I'm down to doing the odd article in the club magazine, still doing the email VIN decode requests and answering questions about these cars.   Still going out on recon missions to find more Chevelles and Beaumonts.    I always wanted to get a registry off the ground but like yourself wasn't sure about the best way to go about it.

I'm always looking to get that next car that I've never seen documented.   Doesn't matter to me whether the car's running, parts cars or in the salvage yard "about to meet its maker".   If I see them then I document them so they'll always logically exist after they no longer physically exist.

So far I have documented 4100 running examples and about half that number that no longer exist except in memories.   For that reason I haven't started a registry, the other reason would be that I'd have to start two at once

one Beaumont and one Canadian Chevelle.  Got to keep the "scales balanced"
as I love both cars and wouldn't want to disappoint anyone.

You're probably right in that we've already talked via email in the past.   I've been doing decodes since late '94 or January of '95.  That alone had me working overtime to keep up with the demand.   I can practically decode a car as I'm walking up to it and I always seem to find something special about each one.  I have a lot of the paint and trim codes in my head, as well as, most of the option codes.   I know and can recite the GM of Canada Vintage Vehicle Services number by memory.

I wasn't trying to sound boastful when I suggested you check me out.   I have a good reputation when it come to helping folks out with these and all Canadian built GM cars.   I wanted people to know off the bat that I can be trusted, no BS, no politics, I'm no wingnut.   Just straight answers from another car guy.

I've talked to so many people that when I'm at out of town car shows wearing my car club jacket.   I get to meet a lot of the people I've helped over the internet.   Beaing from BC and being on the AutoFest shows grounds I've met a lot of folks I talked via the Internet.   So far in the last ten year or so I've never meet anyone that I don't still talk to on occassion.

I just wanted folks to know that I have integrity and honour in what I do.  If I can answer your question I will,  if I can direct you to a resource that I believe can help you out I will.   There's no hidden agenda, I want folks to know as much about their car as possible, period end of story.

My goal with all this information I've collected is to write a book on the subject (Canadian Chevelles & Beaumonts) that would only deal with documented facts.   So far in my research some of my early beliefs have been shattered by fact but then new facts have kept me going to learn more.

For the posting challenged like myself what's a PM me?  Should probably know but don't.

Well, in there somewhere is a good preface to a book.
Thanks for the reply and it is not to long. I have not been documenting cars as long as you have but I have owned 4 big block Canadian built Chevelles and Beaumonts from 1968 and 1969. During my "quest" for information I have learned a lot (and am still learning) about these cars and how unique they are to their US built brothers, even the Chevelles. So little is known about the Beaumont in particular that I try and help anyone who asks for help. Not that I am an expert but I am very particular for details (anal).
I think you will find a lot of interest, especially on this site, in a book that could assist others in the Canadian Beaumont/Chevelle story.
I get the feeling that you are hesitant to release information that you feel is not a documented fact but I do believe that there are people out there that do know. You just have to find them. Nobody can be an expert on every year and every model and with assistance and a network of people I think your daunting task may be a little easier. I know I would throw my hat in the ring.
If you want to send me a personal message (PM) click on my user name and it will take you to another screen with my user information. You will see on the right at the bottom a tab called personal messaging. Right under that it says send message.
Sorry for the wordy message. I'm not done with this topic yet.
Thanks again for the reply

PM means private message. It's good to have someone with as much data as you to clear up some mysteries.

Thanks James. Hopefully we can get something put together. My son is computer genius and two of my cousins do website design. I may have to solicit some help.
 I'll keep everyone posted.

This is for any of the numbers guys out there.  It was sent to me along with my documents about my car.  I received my documentation in 1991 from GM of Canada, so I am unsure if they still give out this sort of information.  I found it very interesting and wish I could view the full production year!  As you can see on this page, only 2 396 cars were built.  Enjoy....

Thanks

GM of Canada stopped sending out the microfiche pages due to security. If you want to know more PM me. See Brad I'm learning. Interesting facts from that microfiche sheet

Most of the cars on that sheet stayed in Ontario and Quebec. Four cars went to BC, two went to Alberta, two went Saskatchewan, one went to Manitoba and eleven went to the Martimes, one was exported out of Canada.

Twelve cars have vinyl roofs, two cars have factory two tone, five cars have three speed manual transmissions, nineteen cars had no radio, nine cars had tinted windshields, two cars have four speeds, forty-eight cars have PG, fourteen cars have PS, thirty-six cars have full wheel covers, six cars have bucket seats and console, three cars have two tone body mouldings, eleven cars have 250 L6 engines, one car has a 327 V8, one car has a 396 V8,
seven cars have power brakes, four cars have block heaters, one has a heat modulated fan.
four cars have deluxe seat belts, twelve cars have HD suspension, four cars have Posi, one car has side window reveal trim, one car has bumperettes front & back.

All the six cylinder and V8 engines except one were built in Canada at the St Catherines engine plant. Most popular paint colour eight cars are Nantuckt Blue, least popular paint colours Emerald Green, Royal Plum and Capri Cream one car each.

By this time GM of Canada had built 4626 Beaumonts.

Interesting that the engine in the SD396 car was machined on September 22nd, a good 2 1/2 months before the car was assembled.

The rest of the engines are all within a matter of a few weeks.

I also just noticed the only 327 car is a wagon. That's kinda cool.

Wow, you guys are really on the ball! I am impressed. I was hoping for that kind of response. Now, anyone else out there with similar GM documents? Please post them if you have them as it will help us find more info about our Canadian Poncho's!

I tried to take pictures of the one for my 65 Canso, but no such luck. Just a bunch of glare, and too far a way. Time to get one of those $129 scanners Todd mentioned...

The engine in my 68 SD has a build date about 2 1/2 months before the car build date. Engine build date was mid August and car was Oct 31st.

Strange isn't it, how some are mere days lead time, and others have months of lead time?

I guess small steps forward are better than none. I have the domain name registered but have nothing to see at this time. When I am back from vacation in mid February a few more steps will be completed.
I have some things in mind for the website but am curious to know what type of information you would like to be able to find there. I have been checking a few other registry sites but they seem to be just that, only a registry.
If you don't mind sharing I would really appreciate some suggestions.
 Thanks, Brad

Beaumont Registry and website

Update on the Beaumont Registry.
What a lot of work this is going to be. Again I appreciate all the offers to send information about their car. I still don't have anything on the home page but hopefully will have something before I leave for vacation on Saturday.
I am going to have (my son is going to have) an under construction homepage and some Beaumont pictures and whatever info I can get on there for now. When I am back home work will continue.
I would like to ask the assistance of some of the great users on this forum if they would like to send me some pics of their 64-69 Beaumont that I can use for the picture gallery. If so, please include a brief description of their car with the year so my son will know for sure. I'll be away for a week. All pictures will have the lisence plates or tags erased, watermarked and no names of the owners.
Pictures can be sent to pictures@beaumonts.ca

There will also be a link to this forum on the website if it is OK.
I would like to ask again if there is anything you would like to find on the Beaumonts.ca website or included in the Beaumont Registry or if you just have questions to please contact me info@beaumontregistry.com

 Thanks, Brad

Hey Beaumont Bill,

Dave Weir, Numbers_guy.   Just thinking you may want to reconsider posting a microfiche page as the key codes and complete VINS are present.   Kinda a security thing.   Second thing is would you consider making me a photocopy of that page and mailing it to me?

Let me know...

Could you post the 375-396 post Chevelle sheet somewhere, I'd like to compare it with mine. ( Mine's a US built car, though.
