Hi and welcome to the best site for Canadian Pontiacs thanks to the work of our moderator Todd. Your serial numbers mean:

6= 1956
2039= 4-door sport coupe Pathfinder Deluxe Series
6= 261 six cylinder
22,488 = sequence number built out of a total of 46,863  1956 Pontiac cars.
                                                                       1,385  Sedan Deliveries

There should be two data plates on your firewall. One will have the Serial number and Engine number.  The second one will have your Style no. Body no. Paint code. Trim no. and BSO (Body Special Option). The BSO numbers will give the option information your car was equipped with from the factory.

I looked at your pictures and that is very nice 56 Poncho you have. Is that a wonderbar radio ?

When you check the data plates send me the information and I'll decode it for you.

Al

I am in the process of purchasing a 1955 Pontiac Sedan Delivery Canadian Poncho.  If I am correct, they only produced about 1055 in 1955 and only in Canada.  I am new to this era of Pontiac and was wondering if you could answer some questions and interpret the VIN.  First, was the Vin tag located on both door jambs?  Were these cars Chevy powered?  Are my production numbers correct?

  The VIN is  5 2271 819313

   Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the site. Your car is a 55  Sedan Delivery. Here is a break down of the serial number.

22  =  Pathfinder Series
71  =  Sedan Delivery
8    = 265 V8
19313  is the sequence number of all 1955 Canadian Pontiacs built in Oshawa Ontario. Appx 31,000 in total.
1055 sounds correct but I will have to look up the exact numbers.

Email your phone number and I will phone you I have free long distance.smile

Al,

    Thanks for the info.  My number is 1-609-707-2318 and email is rprvette@hotmail.com.   I own 14 Pontiacs, but this is my first Canadian.  I almost bought a T/A years ago, but the customs made me crazy.  This car was titled in Ca. about 20 years ago.

   Thanks,
       Rich

Are you offering photocopies of these publications for sale? If so, I am interested in the 1956 Sedan Delivery Sales Brochure. Thanks.

I just picked up a 56 Pontiac. I am not sure if it is a pathfinder or a pathfinder deluxe. Could you check your magical charts and please let me know what I have? Could you also tell me how one could visually see the differences between the pathfinder and the Pathfinder deluxe in 1956? Thank You,

Jode

Tell us what numbers are on your data plate (attached to the cowl on the diriver's side) and we can tell you for sure.

Looks like this (except the color will match your car color):

Also, we all like to see photos of your car, eh? smile.gif

Hi there, I am the new owner of what appears 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder, 4 door De Luxe Sedan, but I need confirmation. Previouse owner lost the paper work. Serial Nr. on fire wall is 7301948355 made by GMC Canada. Thanks in advance
