I recently was in Peace River, Alberta and found out that HillTop Wreckers has been sold and the "CRUSHER" is coming in the spring. This is one of the last big wreckers in Alberta with a large inventory of older cars. I managed to contact the previous owner and he has confirmed that they may have a short open period once the snow melts prior to the "CRUSHER" arriving. You can check out their inventory on line by searching HillTop Wreckers Peace River.furious.giffurious.gif

I've been through that yard a year ago, and took some photos. I posted one of a 70 2+2, but had hoped to go get it. Sadly I've lost my storage and can't save anymore orphans.

This wrecker probably would have made it if he left the name as HillTop when he bought it, but he thought he should change the name when he bought it. Have you still got the photo? I could call Bill and see if the car is still there. John

There's a lot of good parts in that yard. Lots of wagons too. I wanted to grab the buckets and console out of that 70, but never made it back up there.

Called Bill about the 70 2+2 he's not sure if it is still there but he thinks it might be. Once the snow melts I am going in there to see about my 67 Stainless parts, I can see for sure if the 70 2+2 is still there. I am also driving from Manning (north of Peace River) to Richmond (outside of Ottawa) this summer with a truck and trailer to move my Grandmother and then hauling a load back to Edmonton. There is a possibility that if this car is there and some one is interested we could work something out. I have been "TOLD" that I am not interested already as three cars at home should be enough!!! Cheers, John

Hill Top Auto Wreckers in Peace River, I am originally from High Level,Alta so have made a few stops at that place. My first visit to Hill Top was around 1980,just after they changed locations. The old yard used to be located right on top of the Peace River valley as you went south. After the move, the fella lined everything up in rows according to make, model and year, it was a beautiful sight . I'm not sure what's left but the thought of those cars being crushed brings tears to my eyes....

I went by there in 2009 with my mom after spreading grandpas ashes in Peace River (where she is from) and they were closed (mom really wanted to go through there) I tried calling the number that was on the sign and it didn't seem to work at that time.

I would like to know what is left there and what the prices are like because I am willing to make a 6 hour haul for a good 50's wagon of nearly any brand.

I took the following photos there a few years ago.

An English Standard wagon. When you opened the door, the old english leather smell wafted out.

Wow, that's just not even funny thinking of that yard being crushed.

This yard is virtually gone now. There are a few cars near the shop and buildings but most of the cars have been crushed and hauled. I drive past almost every winter on route to wonderful Rainbow Lake Ab!
