Are truck 427's junk?

I came across a '68 Truck 427 for sale that apparently runs well for $800. Are these motors worth having? I understand they have a tall deck and therefore need adapters to run aftermarket intakes. I also understand they don't hold up at higher rpms but what about in a car that may see the track on the odd Friday night and will mostly be used for cruising? Can the difference between a car and truck 427 be noticed at a glance?

todd,
i wouldn't bother,
the heads are small port, small valve, built for hi torque.
you may also have clearance problems fitting ex manifold/headers with the taller decks.

427 truck engines sell for $500 or less around here. They are good for building big cubic inch engines. Other than that, they do have steel cranks and are all 4 bolt main blocks. The main caps are good to use to convert your 2 bolt to a 4 bolt.

What are the differences between the Gen V and Gen IV? Can I run the early style V belt system or do I have to run serpentine?
