I always thought the Canso started in 62 but my 62 gm parts catalogue only list 2 series, invader and beaumont. After searching the net i've found many 63 canso's listed but no 62's. So if this correct the 62 line had 2 series. the 63 line had 3 series, invader, canso and beaumont. then in 64 they split the acadian line and kept the invader and canso on the nova platform and shifted the beaumont onto the chevelle platform. any conformations or opinions?
From what I know I agree with everything that you've stated. As for the car that I own (64 Canso), there was extremely low numbers made(606). Do a google search on 64 Canso and see what you come up with. Most of the hits will be my adds looking for parts.
It is/was extremely confusing explaining to people that the beamont line went to the full size platform in 64. You know my mom actually owned a 64 beaumont and we argued that it was not the same car as I own. We actually had to dig up pictures to figure it out.
Without the internet or GM restoration services, it's unlikely that I ever would have figured out exactly what I own. My insurance papers list the car as a "Pontiac Beaumont". Even the previous owner told me it was an "Acadian Beaumont".
It must have been a marketing technique or something to get people into the full size line.?????
You know in high school my buddy had a 68 Beaumont with a chevelle front clip. NOBODY, even the seasoned chevelle people in the US had a clue what the car was. At car shows everyone wanted to know where he got the "custom rear taillights" Too funny.
On a side note, that trim on your wagon, the white side trim, I need that for a two door car. If you ever see some please let me know, thanks.
i didn't believe this car existed when my brotherinlaw told me about it. i was telling him i wanted to hotrod my dads old 67 beaumont wagon which was decaying up at the farm. he said there was a 63 beaumont wagon up at their family homestead and it looked like a nova. took a road trip and a case of beer to change my mind.
there are a lot of beaumonts in the cobourg area here but only one that looks like a nova. there is a guy north of me named willy who has collected beaumonts all his life. probally has 20 or so in various stages and he's never seen or heard about the early ones till i told him about mine.
if i come across any white side trim filler i'll let you know. i'm looking for the little piece that caps it off on the front on the passanger side.
i remember being at the ottawa cruises 25 years or so a go and a 67 acadian canso parked beside me while i was cruising in the 67 acadian beaumont wagon, that where i learned that acadian had 2 series. i just thought that the canso looked like a nova and dads wagon looks like a full size. never heard about an invader till i bought a parts book 3 years ago. saw one last year in moncton.
the learning never stops. i'll probally get the gm package for mine this year. it will only tell me the production number. because i'm the second owner and its from the perth area near ottawa. the old lady who owned it before me, bought it new and parked it 30 years ago up at their farm because the motor calfed out.
if i come across any white side trim filler i'll let you know. i'm looking for the little piece that caps it off on the front on the passanger side.
I just had a brain fart, is that white piece a flat filler? Is the trim two narrow strips like the base models with a flat filler between? If you could PM me a pic of yours I'd really appreciate it. I really don't know what I'm looking for. Also there should have been some trim across the tailgate, could you give me a pic of this as well? Thanks, Floyd.
sorry about the delay. you know, the cameras in the house, the ladder is in the front garage, the trim is in the attic of the worshop, its cold outside. hope these help any more questions? the insert is metal not white, the wagon is a 63, yours deffinately looks like someone put it on backwards, still cool thou. there is another member named forespeed who has early acadian parts, haven't heard from him in a while. i know he had just got out of the hospital. i can take closer pictures if you want.
Awesome, thanks for the effort. I have bought from fourspeed before. I was hoping that your tailgate trim was more like mine, but it is not. I have 2 of three of the pieces. If you could give me a closeup that would be super. But you can wait for a warm day........... thanks. Floyd.
