69 SD in black

Here are some pics of my 69 SD WIP. My goal for the end of March was to have the car back on the ground and moved over in my shop where I could get at everything better. I got the quarters done, the NOS door skins on and the NOS Chevelle fenders converted to Beaumont fenders. Now to fit everything and then take it all apart again for final prep. No body off this year.
The wheels aren't the ones going on this car. They were all I had with tires and held air.

Nice work!! Are the rear 1/4s different on a Beaumont versus a Chevelle?

Thanks Pat. The quarters are the same for the Chevelle. I have NOS quarters and outer wheelhouses but there were only two small holes behind the rear wheels so I decided to repair them.

Hi John
The SD is an original Matador Red car so I think  I am going to keep it original. I may sell this car when I get the 68 finished so it should sell better that way as well.

Looks like its coming along Brad. Looks great. Is that the original engine sitting in it?

It's not the original engine in the car. The original drivetrain is long gone. I do have a complete 1969 350hp 396 for the car but for now it is 454 powered. I have all the correct parts to make the car date correct but not numbers correct.

I think the 396 should go back in. I know of a good home for the 454...

The 454 was going to go into the 68 when I get the 396 rebuilt. I picked up another block, crank and rods on the weekend so now the 68 may get a 427.

I know a guy in Hamilton with a set of 1969 Chevelle quarters and front fenders N.O.S. that he will sell if someone is interested

Here are a couple of pics I took this morning. I got the front sheet metal all bolted together and aligned. Now it's time to take it all back apart again for prep. I'm going with the multi-colour front end. smile
This is the first time the SD has looked like a car in almost 20 years. clap.gif

Brad... Car is looking nice. Are you doing any work work to the frame, ie taking the body off, or finishing it the way it is?

Thanks guys. The encouragement keeps the motivation going. It's too bad I don't get more time to work on it. I don't trust anyone else to do the body so I will keep working away at it myself.
I am not lifting the body off the chassis, I don't have time for that. I have another chassis ready to go under the car but this car needed no work to the floor so I chose to leave it that way. The floorpan still has the factory black paint on it.
The main reason for getting the car back together and on the road was to get insurance on it. My insurance company told me that they would not insure a car that was not on the road. So I am going to get it on the road and the appraisal done and then start on the 68SD. Maybe in a few years I will get the 69 lifted up and the new chassis under it.

69 SD in progress

I haven't been on the forum too much lately trying to get the SD ready for paint. Here's an update picture. I know it doesn't look like much but there has been progress.
The car is in primer now and all one color. Another week or so I should have the doors back on and the red blown in and ready for the paint booth. I forgot how long it takes to get a body ready for paint.
I picked up an original 4 speed rad for the car and got it redone last week so that should help with the cooling as opposed to no rad.

Looking good Brad. I give you frame-off guys A LOT of credit for all that hard work. Not sure I'd ever do it even though the finished product makes it worth your while.
