Lots of rumors, but never proven and I don't think it ever will be. The parts book does not show Chevy engines in the 67-69 'Birds.

Guys always claim to have 327 67-68 'Birds when they talk about what they had, or advertise them. Same for 69, they claim 350 Chevy powered Birds.

I have been through every piece of Canadian Firebird literature I can lay my hands on. Parts books, assembly manuals, sales brochures and whatever. There is just NO proof anywhere that they came with a Chevy engine.

With that said, someone will prove me wrong. And that's fine if they do. Just stating what I have been able to prove thus far.

I have always heard the same thing but as you mention everyone points to the parts book and says not there. I have often wondered if a certain number of cars were made with Chevy 327 engines as part of the effort to get the 68 Firebird sanctioned for Trans Am racing with the SBC 302 Z/28 engine. This effort was headed by Canadians connected to GM Canada. We are talking about the days when just about anything was possible in the factory. I want to say that I have seen orange engines in Gen 1 Firebirds but my memory is not that good to say it with 100% accuracy.

I have this ad copy from 1968 but I understand that the picture of the Firebird and copy are not really related. Don't know why GM would put an unrelated picture in the ad but that's what I understand to be the case.

I've always heard that the Canadian cars had chev motors.
My Brother had a 67 Camero conv, 327cid, chev. He also had a 69 Firebird with a 350 big block (he called it a blue block). Pontiac motor.
Hmm, now that I think of it.
I don't think I've ever seen a first gen Firebird with a chev motor.

I suspect that you will never find any information showing one, other than speculation.

A good example is a 65 Z16 Chevelle. You can't look up parts in the regular sections in the GM parts catalogue, but at least one GM parts catalogue I was said "To order parts for cars with RPO Z16, contact you zone parts order destk" or something to that effect. This is for a car that had total production of 201 apparently.
