More Jobs gone..

I know,we have seen a little talk, on Politics and fishing, which is fun to read. Can I share a job story?  I worked in Exeter for 16 years, and got to know a lot of people.. I read in Free Press today, that the canning factory is closing down. The plant canned sweet corn, and peas, supplied by local farmers..It was bought by a Financial group, out of Florida 2 years ago.. The new company stopped soup production last year, and killed 60 jobs. Todays plant closing news release, killed 150 jobs. Big number for a small town!.  Heres the kicker!  This is the same company, who closed McCormiKs in  London and killed 275 jobs in '07, AND is closing a peaches, pears processsing plant in Niagara in June!                What gives?  Carl2 (unemployed)

I went through the same thing 2 years ago....Our plant in Georgetown shut down...It was there 35 years, me 25......"Golden handshake, don't let the door hit you on the way out"

A few weeks I heard that Durham Furniture is shutting down their Chesley operation......That will devastate that little town...............

if they are tied closely to the american economy they will be in for a rough ride... other times companies buy out smaller competitors, shut em down and boost their own production prices after, its too hard for a competitor to start from scratch...

its hard to believe that ON is suffering so much, esp. forestry and mining, when west of there its just moving forward too fast, prices are flying out of control... i havent hired a trade to work on my house that hasnt made less than $100-150/hr cash!

Speaking of trades, there is such a shortage here in Ontario. I think most of the guys are going out to Alberta! It's so bad I had a trade school call my house asking if anyone was interested in getting trained for HVAC as they are short on students!

I work in the mining industry.  Our biggest problem right now is attracting and retaining personnel.  There is a real shortage of qualified people.  If you have a kid entering university that isn't sure what they want to do, get them to check out becoming a geologist or a mining engineer.  They will be able to write their own ticket when they graduate.
