I changed all my suspention this year and today was my first test drive...So I back out of my shop and hit a little bump and hear thump from my rear end. Pull back in check the springs are in right.....yup even have upper and lower isolaters in right. So I back out again...thump. HMMM...I have to drive my car to the alingment shop tommarow, what could this be? Put my car on the hoist ....everything looks good, no loose nuts. Hmm what's this peace of rubber sticking out here? O it used to be a body mount. Cleverly disguised with thick undercoating!! I want to drive my car and have no plans on frame off this year. Any suggestions on changing them. I bought a new set of the poly dougnuts but i think ill need hardware too. These are carridge nuts arn't they? I have a duck bill port-o-power and i'll try to lift the body with that. Anyway any help will be appreciated.
I am in the middle of that job for someone on an A body at the moment, although my Acadian has priority for the next while.
Are you looking to change them all?
Which mount is falling apart?
I have the body separated enough from the frame right now. Once I got the bolts out (or borken off enough) it was pretty easy to lift. I went to Princess Auto and bought 4 little one ton jacks and used about 2 foot lengths of 2x4 on each one. It comes up fairly easy.

Chances are you will break the bolt on the mount right behind each rear wheel. It the bolt doesn't break, the nut will spin inside the mount and the only way to that nut is to cut open the trunk floor or cut a small rectangular piece out of the wheel tub behind the wheel.

Well i finally got around to doing them today. I only had one that actually turned out so now i have holes all over my floor and trunk but no more(bump thump bump). It wasnt that hard but took me the hole day. Also helped I had a hoist to use. But now I know I really need to do a frame off cause I found a lot of nastyness, especially around those rotten mounts. Anyway new seats, carpet and door panels tomarow so im ready for street wheelers weekend next weekend and my wedding the following one...
Street Wheelers is next weekend? My brother in law who lives there always talks about that.
So what do you mean by holes in the trunk and floor? Did you have to cut holes to hold the nut from spinning?
The mount right behind the wheel is usually the one that rusts the worst. You can just make a new piece and weld it on like the factory piece was. It will look good as new.

Hi Carl... So yes I had to cut holes all over.It was painful my car doesnt need floor pans ....but No#1 bolts busted as soon as the impact hit them,#2 both spun 3&4 broke,5 one spun one broke and i dont have the one after the rear wheel well. (My car is mini tubbed) and the person who did it (before i owened it)must have cut of those mounts. The last ones by the rear bumper were ok .
Look at it from this point of view. Your making up for some past sins and wear factors. If done right, and it sounds like that's the way you're doing it, then your Beaumont is good for another forty odd years.
With you buddy, sounds like the cars going to be back to new soon. Keep us advised.
