67 ps



hello my ps gear box is leaking from the bottom can anybody tell me what part number i need so i can get one are they the same as a chevelle i talked to napa they need to know if it a 4to1 or 3to1 also is this a fairly straight forward job anything i need to know first ive done a lot to my car its a 67 beaumont sd conv. i figure if i can rewire my car i can fix this also just need a little help and maybe a that a boy lol.biggrin

You're planning on changing the Pitman seal right...not the box?.
Fairly easy fix, grab a seal kit, some fluid, borrow a Pitman Arm puller and you and a buddy can do it over a few cold ones..
It's been a few years so sorry if I forget anything..
First you and buddy need to do a front end inspection as now's the time to replace any worn front end components...especially the Pitman arm if it's worn since you'll have it off anyway..
Remove the P'arm and pull the snap ring that holds the seal taking note of the ring's up/down position and any spacers..  
Next you'll need to flash the car up for a moment turning the steering wheel to one end of it's rotation and it squeals...the overpressure will blow out the seal for you and save digging it out and possibly marrring the seal surfaces..     
And before you blow the seal out put the nut back on to catch the seal parts or you may lose a spacer ring and/or mix up the spacer/clip/seal order as you need to put it all back the same way..
Also make sure to put a drain pan under it all to catch the mess of fluid as it blows..
When it's apart, check the shaft for play also that it's smooth where it protrudes through the seal and sand smooth the surface before reassembling if it's not..
Put it back carefully the same way it came apart and unless you found more problems, you're the winner!.

How about the seal on the power steering box shaft where the column connects.... mine is pissing. Anyone have tips for fixing that one ?

My box is a Monte SS fast ratio (metric) circa 86 ?
