Anyone know any NHLers or former NHLers personally ? I have met a lot but here a few that I can say I know.
I have known Stew Gavin for about 14 years and now our son's are good friends too. Met him through coaching hockey. Dave Gardner sometimes helps me coaching my teams, he grew up in Leaside with his Dad, Leaf star Cal and brother and Pittsburgh Penguin player Paul. His mom still lives in the 'hood but Cal has passed away. Sam Gagne practiced with us and played in one game before the Leafs traded his dad so I included him too.
When I was younger my stepfather introduced me to Bob Gainey, he was the coach of the Peterborough Petes then, and my stepfather worked with his dad. I also had the chance to meet several of the Peterborough Petes back then, Doug Jarvis, Bob Neeley(even had a pair of his skates) but can't say I was actually friends with any of them. Was just a kid meeting some of the local hockey stars. Oh Yeah, My high school was down the road from the hockey arena and they filmed some of the original SlapShot movie there. We got out of school to be part of the "crowd" watchin the game. My friends and I got bored sittin around so we left before they did any filming....

Neat, the "Big M" golfed with my boss 3 weeks ago at Angus Glen, Senator Mahovlich don't you know. They both shot in the high 80's, he's still in darn good shape.
Bernie Federko watched the last game of the Stanley Cup final at the downstairs bar of The Pilot ( a tavern I am part owner of ). A bunch of us were upstairs watching the game, if we had known he was there we would have come down to say hello. I've got to train our staff at being better at recognizing former NHL stars!
