I wish I had the time and money too do what you members have done. Mighty fine and super nice Cars Job well done All .........Love your cars and your attention to detail...........
I don't think you should go as far as calling your car names...LOL. I think alot of people on here would be happy to have a car such as yours. They all take time and MONEY to get them to where you want them, Then, just when you think your done....Nope, your not. My car is far from done the way I want, but time and money are my enemy, and I just drive the S.O.B and try to keep it on the road. OOPS, there, I called my car a name too..LOL Ken

My car might not be anywhere near perfect but i still enjoy it. I have the car that i've wanted and sometime in the future i'm sure it will get restored. For now i have to agree, as long as i can get enough done to keep it on the road i'm happy. And they don't have to be perfect to still turn heads and draw positive comments. I don't think anyone can not like an old car, no matter what shape it's in. There's always someone who wishes they had the car you've got.
Blacktransam wrote: "There's always someone who wishes they had the car you've got." I couldn't agree more! I'd add that nice GTO to my garage anyday! Hey, none of my cars are anywhere near perfect. It's the journey to get them there, saving the $$, making the time to work on them and not just having it handed to you that will make you appreciate them more & more as time goes by. Just my 2 cents.

My car is like my old girlfriends looked good from a distance...
Well all the car I have had some pontiac some not one for $50. still treated it like it was A $10000.00 car. I still enjoy them all for what ever reason. But my Pontiac's and my GMC are not picture prefect but but that half the fun or the quest . Yes there some good looking even if there from 10 feet away

I always get lots of Great comments about my car, even though the primer is faded and the rust is showing and it smokes a bit, but I'm driving it, and I'm not embarassed to take it to a show... Then you always get the odd person that says, "Nice car, It'll look great when its done".... Who says it ain't done, LOL

Even new cars have flaws. Some old jerk in a Mercedes felt it was alright to roll into my 2005 Maxima, the week I got it. And when i got out to look, he looked at me like I had a problem......no marks (whew), week later (even though I usually park away from other cars in parking lots), someone scratched my car. I give up! I think we are harder on our cars, because we know where every little thing is, where as someone walking up to look, may not notice and is just enjoying the view.
I always carry a can of "rustoleum" touch up in my car LOL

Interesting replys, I only said my car was a POS because I know every detail of it ( and how much cash it will take too get it where I want it to be ) I am the first to omit it is a 15 footer, but I always get the, "wow nice car" "the thumbs UP" from the old car lovers when I am driving around, and my favorite "what's the gas mileage like" I say of about 5 miles/a gallon, followed by looks of "OMFG" ... lol But all in all the cost of a tank gas is still cheaper than a round of golf or a family night out at the movies, or a ski trip.
"even the worst looking old car will draw more looks"
I have been saying for years that my car is a perfect 100 point car. At 100km/hr or from 100 feet away people point and say it looks perfect. I think most of us are in the same position. We know where the blemishes are, even if very few others can tell. We wash and wax and touch all of the areas that need to be improved. I know some people who are into the points judging part of the hobby and they just can't bring themselves to drive their cars. They have beautiful cars but believe that 200 or 300 miles per year is a lot. I have done that before 9:00am just to get to a show. Each person has to decide what they value most and just enjoy the hobby for themselves. If perfection is required none of us could enjoy our hobby because none of these cars were perfect when assembled back in the day or now. Remember to enjoy what you have, whatever it is.

Remember, "The Government" only has money confiscated from us.
It was interesting to talk to a guy in the spring at a car show who is the original owner of a 67 Beaumont. He worked at the dealer he got the car from and even prepped it when it came in. He drove it and maintained it then finally decided to restore it. So it's in great shape, with coating underneath that would protect a car from 100 years of road salt. He admits that it's overkill having that much protection. He was pretty down to earth about the car saying as the original owner he doesn't always understand the awe other people have for the car since to him it's always been his car. Just that it's gone from regular everyday on the street car to uber-collectible. It's got a couple rare pieces...ok rarer than just being a one owner car...it also had a wood grain dash that was a dealer option and it's one of just a few cars with wheels that had "disc brakes" stamped on them. It was a great car and he was a good guy to meet, not stuck up, not arrogant, just a car guy who talked cars and was lucky enough to have kept the car since new. I just hope i have my car for a long time, as it's custodian if you will, and maybe make it a bit better to pass it along to it's next caretaker someday.
I'm a bit critical of my car. When I'm at a show or cruise night I always blurt out "The paint is 30 years old" to people who stop to look at it as it is a bit off colour in spots and the laquer is cracking in spots. I don't want someone to think I just had it painted a year ago!

Now THAT is the type of person you hope to meet every time you go to a car show. He's having fun with his car, regardless of the fact that it is quite valuable.

I think we are all critical of our own cars. I guess it is because we know absolutely every small imperfection. I find that the most critical people at a show or a cruise are the ones that came in their mini-van and don't own a classic car.
