Another milestone for me!

After 4 years, and never thinking the body would ever get started, I finally cleaned up and shot some epoxy on the body!

You'd be surprised how much time it takes to remove all the overlapping trim on a ragtop. I got pretty lucky, only 3 screws were stuck, and only 2 needed drilling to remove. The bottom corners of the window channel were in remarkably good shape, so that was a relief as they're usually rotten. It had the original windshield (which I broke). I used my cheaper grey Dupont Nason as the dash will be eventually painted a flattened red. I'll do the firewall and underbody in (pricy) black PPG DP90.  All The interior including the trunk will be done in the Nason grey as well. All in all this relatively simple job took me about 10 hours. I can't imagine ever having to pay someone to fix this body. It's going to take me a ton of hours, but I really do enjoy this.

I plan on finishing the firewall, then will move back finshing the floors at least to the trunk. It probably will have to be placed back on the frame to do the trunk area, as it's pretty rough.

Anyhow guys, I'm pretty inspired. Amazing how much a good clean coat of epoxy can make this project seem actually doable!

Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark,
It's good to see another B body being resurected. Good luck with the project.

For a Canadian ragtop, it really isn't that bad, is it Mark! Kudo's to Mark for doing a frame off in a portable garage!

Looks good !

May I suggest to cover the DP90 with something that is UV resistant so it does not deteriorate. Endura (two part) in Black is a simple top coat with a mid gloss finish and is VERY tough.

Good luck with your project !

I just put the body back on my 67 Chevelle rag last winter... still a long way to go for me.

Looking good, almost there, let's see, how many cases of beer to finish the body?
Any guesses?

Both still require a lot of work.

All  beer monies, should be set aside for 'car stuff"  Always drink the beer of non-car guys..  Invite neighbors over to watch, and make them bring beer...

I never drink during the work, but let me tell you, afterwards the tallboy Canadians can really get flyin'!

Thanks for the complements. And yes Gary, I'll be topcoating at least the firewall. I have some Nason Full-Poxy black and flattener, although I've heard the DP90 can actually stand up to the sun pretty good, as long as it's not always exposed to it.

Cheers, Mark

Mark

I must confess, I used to think the 69 B bodies were not very good looking (that would have been 25 years ago). I bought a few of them to get stuff I wanted (powertrains) and parted them out. I hang my head in shame now when I realize what I have done. I enjoy them so much now.

Keep up the good work, and as requested, please keep posting pics. They are very inspiring to me and likely all guys with unfinished projects.
