While you're at it see about 63's, that is the first year the 409 appears in GM Canada sales brochures for Pontiacs.

I wonder if the 65 409 cars aren't almost as rare since they are likely only made for the first few months of production.

That's what I think too and although Aubrey hates '65 and ups, personally I like 'em better than the 63/64 cars!.

Mid Feb. is the generally accepted timeframe 409's were replaced by the new Mk1V's in US Chevy plants...not sure if Oshawa was any different?.

Ditto here, we had two 65's in the family a torquoise Laurentian Sedan, 6 and a red with white guts Custom Sport 283. Still I have the original owners manual from one of them.

It amazes me that the GM parts catalogues refuse to acknowledge a 409 in Pontiacs until 64. There is no hint of it being available before then. I have already seen a couple of guys say they have documented 63 409 Pontiacs, so I wonder how the dealer ordered parts for them!

Chevrolet switched over to Mk IV engines in Feb. I think the last known production car was on Feb. 15th if I recall. I was looking for an engine a few years ago for a 65 Impala and that's the info I was able to locate. I still haven't bought the 409, but it is still there.

That car was bought new at York Mills Pontiac 3501 Yonge St in Toronto

I started my apprenticeship there and helped with the PDI on that car.

I saw the car at the star Fresh Air Fund cruise in 1997 or 1998 and it had

a paisley vinyl roof on, it was still green....he gave me a business card with a

picture of the car on it.....believe it was a 400 as well.

There was also a 65 Pontiac strato chief 2 door post 409 400 4 speed that

we replaced the rear wheels cause he e-longated the stud holes from hi rpm

launches.

Its still there. Here's the story I did in 2011 on that car.

Did Pontiac ever produce a Parisienne with a 409 ?                                                            Story by Ray White

That was the subject line on an e-mail I received one morning. As your newsletter editor I receive a number of e-mails related to Pontiacs every week but this was one I needed to answer right away. I answered as professionally and thoroughly as I could detailing the history of the famed 409 engine in Canadian built Pontiacs.

I received a short but intriguing reply, My brother has a 1965 4 speed Parisienne with a 409 and dual 4 barrel carbs he has had since new.

YIKES !  Now I knew that that dual quads were not offered on 65 409s but I figured why not ask for photos. Imagine my surprise when a CD full of photos was offered and of course a photo of the dual quads was provided. If you look through the sale brochures and owners manuals and other documents from 1965 you will not find any mention of dual quads in 1965 but here we have an original owner car.

Understandably, I was asked to keep the location of the car and owner confidential but I was given permission to share a few photos of the car.

I believe it to be the 11.0:1 compression ratio engine with special cam rated at 400 HP that has had the 1964 dual quads fitted for 425 HP. Of course who knows, it could have left the factory that way back then. A note with the CD said Keeping the Fever Alive.

Very nice car, always liked the 65 - had a 65 CS 327 250 4 speed around 1980.
Did your brother own this from new....or is he relaying the story from other sources?
(Remember - original owners are notorious fo embelishing the facts, seems to add romance
to the fables we hear of 'back in the day'.......or could just be faded memories)

I suspect the car above had the 2 fours added after market regardless of present claims.
I was thick into the street and drag racing scene in the mid 60's and lotsa guys were looking
for the 2 fours back then and there were lots available supposedly because some hot rodders
had trouble running them.......probably did not have them on progressive
linkage. I ran 2 fours on a 63 Vette back then with no problems.

Regardless, if the documentation is there then this car is a survivor and a rare piece, last gasp
for the 409.......love the 65's.

Here is the story on another 409 car I tracked down, a '64 Custom Sport. I also did a story on this which appeared in Astro News Flash.

Say Magician40, what dealer did you buy that 409 dual quad from and was it ordered by you? You traded it in on a 67 Toronado is that right?

Hey Ray , car was ordered new from Hogans on the Danforth, May delivery. I sold the car in 67 when i ordered my 67 Beaumont post from City Buick. Randy Heise was the family friend that got me the 375hp 4sp 3:73 gears. My 67 Toronado was my lease car bought new from Wilson Nibblet, I ended up loving the car and bought out the lease.

did this come at the right time, im trying to figure out how to plumb the fuel lines on my wagon, i need pics of a 400 horse, behind the carb so i can hook up the fuel filter anyone

Steel line comes up from the fuel pump bends to the glass bowl filter and then to the carb inlet. If you have a AFB carb it should be the same as my 327 so I can post a picture of it if that helps. The 2x4 intake car is not that different as the picture shows.

on the 400hp the line from the pump goes around the back of the carb into the fuel filter, the inlet is on the drivers side, then the return lines goes from the filter to the line on my frame, i will order up a new lines for the uper end because they are chrome, but i would like to hook up the filter but i dont know were it sits, 64 65 is different than the earlier versions

Been checking other sites for you but I am coming up cold. I thought the 348/409 site that Jim put me on to would give some answers. Someone has to know.
