This is cool. I don't think I've ever seen one of these---

On the street where I grew up one of our neighbours showed up one day with a 1970 Pontiac 4dr. Sedan black and white ex-Ontario Provincial Police car.

That was the first time I knew you could go to the auction and buy them. I was about 15 but thought it was really cool. This neighbour was known as a real miser so all the Dad's laughed about it. It wasn't too long after that he took it in and had all the White painted Black. It was a cool looking black sedan that he had for years. I never really liked him or his kids but I always liked his car. I wish I could remember what the fender flash said but I do remember it was the red V with numbers above it, most likely 350 or 396  as I am sure I would have etched in my memory if it said 454.

No 396s in 70 big cars so I guess it must have been a 350, otherwise it would have been etched in your memory!wink

I'm sure the vast majority of the patrol cars were 350s, they were more than capable for every day use, but I'm sure that they would have had a few 454 "interceptors" like the RCMP had out west; they may have even been 2 doors like my Laurentian to save weight and cost.

Now there's an idea, turn my Laurentian into a police interceptor, I wonder what would be involved in doing that....idea

I may just have to have a look at that auction.

That 69 Laurentian 4 door out west would be a cool RCMP clone. Put one of those 9 foot whips on it, a 427 (why not?), doggie dish caps and that cluster and you are good to go!

So Astro Jet, my 1970 sales brochure lists V8 engines by horsepower. I always figured the 265 HP was a 396 2 bbl. Can you ID the engines by HP for me?

They are listed as:

250 HP - I figure this is a 350 2bbl

265 HP - I thought a 396 2bbl

300 HP - I figure 350 4bbl with duals

345 HP - I figure 454 4bbl single exhaust

390 HP - I figure 454 4 bbl dual exhaust

Boy, I would challenge that 396 70 Pontiac data. Never say never, but I've sure never heard that one before. Time to dig!!!

73 SC - You're right on all counts except the 396. The 265 HP engine is a 400 small block with a 2 bbl carb. and it replaced the 396 2 bbl big block from 69. 1970 was the first year of that motor in the full size Chevrolet - 70 Pontiac engine lineup was a duplicate of the Chevy availability. I drove one once - a 70 Impala Custom from California. It would break the tires loose at not much throttle. Loads of torque.

There's a 70 2+2 hardtop 400 SBC in Calgary. Same owner now has 3 1970 2+2's
Hardtop 350
Hardtop 400
Ragtop 454

I didn't know there were Chevy 400 C.I 70 Canadian Pontiacs. Do they have 400 emblems on the fenders?

I just pulled out my 70 full size deluxe brochure and every single car displayed in the brochure has the 350 fender flags.  I can confirm what gparis7 has said, although I honestly cannot remember ever seeing a 70 with the 400 and hence the 400 flags.  I'm beginning to think they may even be more rare than the 454 cars as I have seen at least 10 of those in my lifetime.
