Many places advertise for dealer decals for sale.. Does anyone know a place that would make a very small # of decals for old car. I realize many guys would want the selling dealer decal, to be EXACT, but I think there would be a market for classic car decals.. I have a car, from a dealer in Toronto, and now Califonia,. I thought it would be cool to have a decal made to represent the Selling dealer.. In my case any existing Pontiac decal with my old dealer name added would do.. anyone ?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean Carl. Do you mean the dealer sticker that some dealers put on the trunk lid? Many dealers used emblems back in the 60's. Or is it something to do with the window sticker you posted?

Thank you for asking.. I was confusing, wasn't I The decal, I was asking about, would be on the back. Most were decals, some were plastic, some were metal. I posted the window sticker, that showed "ART ZIER PONTIAC SACRAMENTO' Since I would never know, what their original decal, looked like, Any Pontiac decal,with their name would be ok.. So its the rear decal, I am looking for..
OK, I get what you mean now. Personally I have never been too fussy for those. My Laurentian still has its original dealer emblem from Forbes in Waterloo on its trunk, but I hate emblems because they drill holes to attach them! My dad's 60 Laurentian from Hogan Pontiac Buick on the Danforth had a nice clean decal on rear panel, just the word Hogan in white letters on a blue background. Subsequent to that, both my Dad and I specified that no dealer emblem be attached to any cars we bought, we even put in the contract the deal would be cancelled if they did! No free advertising, especially when some of those dealers were the sh!ts to deal with afterwards. I much prefer the American practice of using licence plate frames (I hope Todd comes up with some Canadian Poncho ones ), no damage to the body and can remove easily whenever you wish. I recently picked up an original set of Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac licence plate frames. They will look great on my 68 Goat!

surgenors in ottawa used to have something in the 3rd brakelight. a friend used to work there and told me that they were asked to remove quite alot of them.
Old style dealer decals are still available from lots of sources but since they require large minimum quantity orders obviously aren't feasable for what you're doing.. Why not find one you like the style of and have a local graphics place modify it to say what you want and make the few you need?.
When I buy a new car I specify like Hillar to not put the dealer name on the car. They don't like it but if it's in the deal they don't put it on.
Having said that, I think the presence of an original selling dealer emblem or decal on an old car adds tremendous value and provenance to the car. I really enjoy seeing them at cruise ins.

I would like to find an early 80's Marvin Starr decal...might not put it on the car, but who knows...that's the dealership the T/A was delivered to.
The one that is in the picture posted by ss acadian 350 is what Marvin has been using for at least 25 years, at least it looks the same as the one on our 1989 GP.
I think those babies sell for about $75 at swaps, maybe you can get a better deal here.

This year at Barrie there seemed to be a ton of vendors with boxes full of old dealer emblems. I should have bought them all, I could be retired by now!

I'm even being generous at that I never thought of putting dealer stickers on actually. And they won't be going on for a loooong time if i did. They would be the final additions after restoration. One thing i'm not putting on the car...are any firebird decals, not even the little ones.
my beaumont came from thomas motors,in cobourg ontario ,it was sold there twice in fact ,which is cool because its on the same corner that i now live,so its kinda home.i would put a metal dealer tag on if i could find one,it had a sticker once i pulled off ,whata mess it made.

Marvin Starr is about 10 minutes from my house. I have heard by a guy in the industry that they are going out of business in the next month or 2 (I haven't heard anything official). The dealer underwent a facelift about a year or 2 ago. Maybe I should swing by and ask for one. I got a pair of Bob Johnston dealer emblems for a friend of mine by the same name living in Calagary. The dealer went out of business this past March. I have another friend named Jim Davidson that I meant to grab a Jim Davidson Chrysler dealer emblem for, but they closed without warning 2 weeks ago after being in business since 1949.

I wonder what is going on in Toronto? It seems that every GM dealer located south of the 401 has gone or is going out of business soon. Golden Mile became a used car store about a year ago but now that has closed too and the building is empty and for sale. I wonder if Hogan will be next? That would be a real tragedy as that dealer has a great history in Toronto including having had one of the few "performance divisions". I believe that they were the first Canadian dealer to import GTOs in 1964 and actually campaigned a dealer prepared race car. All of this was still when they were on the Danforth and before they moved to Sheppard - oh, wait a minute, Sheppard is north of the 401 so maybe they are safe?

We are seeing some dealerships in the smaller towns getting swallowed up by other dealerships i.e. a town with two dealers now has one bigger dealer. It's happening again this month about 35 miles southwest of me here.
Sign of the times I guess...
I sometimes wonder how long the dealership in a little town of about 400 people (where I work) will survive. These days, I wouldn't put anything past General Motors. They may call tomorrow and say "have a nice day" and that could be it. The funny thing is, our place is always busy. It doesn't seem like the type of place that will close anytime soon, but we sure never know. It's been there since 1956.

I have also heard that GMAC is not providing financing to GM dealers, who therefore cannot provide financing to their potential purchasers. Remember, GMAC is now 51% owned by Cerberus, who own Chrysler, and they may be doing this on purpose to hurt GM sales and drive more people into Chrylser dealerships. When it is a battle of life and death financial survival, anything goes....
