How about Canadian Poncho day at the drag strip?

At St. Thomas Dragway, just south of London in Sparta Ont. they have Mopar Days, as well as other types. Would there be enough of interest in approaching the track about doing a Canadian Poncho Day? Maybe in conjunction with a cruise/meet in Ingersoll as Todd was thinking about for next summer? Just a thought on a fall dayconfused

Sounds good but we'd need a commitment from folks before we plan such an event. I think you can book the track for weekdays which means a day off work for most people.

Would a running chassis with a plywood floor and a lawn chair be ok?

Yes, but you'd have to run in the modified class.

St. Thomas Dragway has a Buick Olds Pontiac day every fall. I think it's set for the second or third weekend in October this year.

Is it radar proof. Knowing me, that'd be the time I get bagged for "racing". Bye bye Laurentian...

Do you know when that is? I checked their website, couldn't find any info on that.

If I pop the motor at the track, will CAA tow me from there or will we have to clean the shoe polish numbers off the windows and push it out to the road? Thats what those of us had to do with our cars under factory warranty when we broke things at the track and had to call GM roadside assistance...wink

I'll tow you back to Ingersoll with the Acadian. 194 cubes with an air cooled Powerglide should do it if we don't take it out of Low

I would doubt whether there would be sufficient Pontiacs in Ontario, or there derivatives, to substantiate an all Pontiac race day at any track, including St. Thomas, although this is my favorite track. The practical solution would be to hook up with the ONDR, ie Ontario Nostalgia Drag Racers and Rick Proctor in particular, who run points races throughout Ontario. This weekend they are running at Grand Bend for a two day event which promises to be spectacular as ususual. They run gassers, altereds, stocks, pure stocks, etc. and it is always incredible racing. Why they don't advertise in Old Autos is beyond me as they have been in existence for a number of years and spectators are almost non-existent. There is one gentleman that runs a 1963 black Parissiene with a 409. The event this weekend is usually held at St. Thomas on the thanksgiving weekend however I expect due to the purported problems with the track management it was rescheduled to Grand Bend this year. This organization is well worth joining and dues are an incredibly low $20/year or thereabouts. Everyone involved is supportive of the next guy and willing to assist in each others endeavors. Doug.

The event could always be run with some other regional Pontiac clubs. I know there's the Ontario Pontiac Club, it's newer cars but they had an event in St.Thomas in the summer, even had GM there. I didn't get to go but heard it was a decent turn out. I also found a local Trans Am club which i need to check into. I'll bet somehow enough Pontiacs could make it, not sure on time of year but if you don't mind an all years event then it could work. Just a thought.
