GM asks, describe your dream car

Recently, the question was posed to me by GM Internal Research, "Describe your Dream Car".  This was my response;

My dream car must be an attention getter.  It should be a bright color or black.  If a bright color, it should be a pastel color to remind me of the cars I grew up with, no metalic colors.  It should have a noticable sound, not loud but a little growl.  It should say, I bought this because I enjoy driving my cars.  It should not say, I bought this because I just want to get from point A to point B as cheaply as possible with a minimal amount of effort.

My dream car cannot be just like 5 other ones in a parking lot.  It should not be noticable because it cost 100k.  It should be noticable because it combines style, grace and speed.

So you see there is no one dream car for me.  I hope every car I own is my dream car.  I hope I never buy a car I don't enjoy driving.  Life is too short and I want to enjoy every driving minute of it.  I hope I never own a car that I want to own the rest of my life and never share with anyone else.  There are too many potential dream cars out there and I will buy and drive as many as I can.  Then I will sell them to someone else to own, drive and enjoy as I go hunting for my next dream car.

Probably not exactly what they expected, but the moral is, if they just keep building cars with an identity, satisfy the needs of the consumer and keep them affordable, we will enjoy owning them.

That was a response they wouldn't expect...for sure! You probably confused the hell out of 'em.(or woke them up) Right on, Great Note.
  My Buddy did one of these years ago, about trucks, he had just purchased a Z71 4X4, but he really wanted a Shortbox Sportside with a 350, 5 speed. He proceded to inform them that it was no wonder the "other" brands were sellin more trucks, they were building performance "sport" trucks, that people wanted.  He had phone calls and letters from all kinds of GM reps over that one!

Shoulda described Homer Simpson's dream car...LOL

Yes you both have the right answers. Whatever happened to the good only days when you could special order your car from the factory with just the options that you wanted.

I agree with sixtywagon. GM is getting so left behind in the car wars. It is no wonder that they seem to be going down hill.

For example how long has it been since thay have had the Camaro concept car. I recall seeing it quite a number of years ago. I also have seen a I believe the year was a 55 chevy nomad wagon concept.

I give it to the other auto makers for the concept cars to production. Ford Mustang, Ford Thunderbird, and now the Dodge Challenger.

Although I am a GM man, I do give a thumbs up to the other guys for bringing retro styling to the forefront. The unfortunate think is that I think that GM is scared of something and we may never see the Camaro. Pontiac tried with the GTO, but it was not a retro styled car, so my personal thoughts, that is what got the best of it. If it was a retro, I bet most of the money in the world that it would have taken off.

My logic in thinking is that most of the 60's and 70's cars you just cannot get anymore. People that were born in the late 50's or early 60's are now in their 40's or 50's and are the ones who can aford to  buy new vehicles. Don't you think if they had a choice between a retro Camaro or a Pontiac Vibe for instance, the flashbacks would point them to purchase the Camaro.

Just my 2 cents worth. What do other guys think??

I just purchased a near mint Fleetwood this week to use as my every day driver so I think you understand where I am coming from. biggrin

I just got home from a swap meet and I drove a 65Camino with me. after 1 1/2 hours of highway driving we passed a Civic and he said, "After driving in this why would anyone buy that?"

I don't have an answer for him, I have two Cadillacs.
