LAST POST

Chevrolet built a 2 door post in 65-66-67-68-69.. Why did Pontiac switch to hard tops in 67-68-69?  or am I incorrect?

I think there is a 68 Pontiac post, then no more after that, right?

1969 was the last year for full size post cars in the Chevrolet lineup, while 1968 was the last year for a Pontiac 2 dr post - both in Canada & in the Catalina line in the US. In 69 & 70 the Strato Chief & Laurentian became available as 2 dr hardtops. Not sure why the post cars were  dropped but I suspect it had more to do with the changes in the American Pontiac lineup, as the body tooling was essentially the same for the US Catalina and the Canadian full size lines. A lot of the full size cars were losing their 2 dr post models around this time. Buick dropped the 2 dr model after 63, and I believe it was  gone from the Olds lineup before that. Dodge dropped it after 64. Like Chevrolet, Ford dropped it after 69. Not sure about Mercury & Meteor, but the latest model I have ever seen is 66. Plymouth kept on with the 2 dr sedan up to 1971 , but as far as I know that was the last full size car to host a 2 dr sedan body style until they substituted pillared HTs in the 70s.

It sure is a good looking car. When I was in high school, a kid in the next grade up drove a blue 327 68 Strato Chief to school every day. The car always stuck in my mind. Here's a you tube link to a video of a 68 Catalina 2 dooor post that was recently offered on e-bay, 400 ci, 3 speed col shift manual trans.
