RE: RM Auction

I have broad shoulders. Actually that's what I meant by Asian flu. I had some damn weird customers the last few days. One lady went sideways because her pig sty Rav 4 took longer than 4 hours to detail (it took half an our just to get her junk out to begin!) . When I offered to pay for a rental car for her so that she could run her errands she said "I can't believe you would offer something as silly as that. I only drive a 2000 Rav4. I cannot drive anything else. There are babies in cars on the road. Do you want me to kill the babies?"weirdface
I found out later this women feels her Rav is alive, can't drive on busy highways and wont go out on windy days because her Rav will tip over....

And then there was the customer who wears mittens 24/7 because she is afraid of germs....

I am sorry to have to say it, BUT I thought all Toyota customers were like that!!      My mother has a 2002 Toyota 28,000km confused, and she is wacko.. She takes it in ,for the oil change and inspection ($270.00) each time, because they will put her, yearly licence sticker, idea on for free!   She is wasting my inheritance....

Don't think I am going now as it's the same weekend as our slot car show we have.

Should I put my money down on one big car or many small ones...????

I contacted RM last week to inquire on sending my 63 SD across the auction block.  They informed me their policy is for me to pay the Canadian 6% tax at the border in order to put my car into their name prior to auction.  That way, the new buyer would be able to take posession imediately following the sale.
I countered that I would haul my car to the border locked in my enclosed trailer and the new buyer could process paperwork and pay taxes in his name.
They said it used to be that way but the buyers protested waiting a week to ten days for paperwork to clear.
So, I should pay 6% at the border, about $300 for auction run fee, 10% to RM if it sells and another $500 or so for 3 nights in Toronto.  For that kind of money I could trailer it to Barrett Jackson in Arizonia.
Needless to say, my wife was very dissapointed when I told her we would not be going to Toronto for a 3 day weekend.  Just one more reason to lock everything up and go south for the winter.

Plus you would net a lot less as the Canadian dollar has crashed down to 84 cents US in the last week and I'm sure no one here has yet adjusted their mentality to bid higher to compensate. I think it will be very interesting to watch the results from the auctions over the coming months. I believe it will most definitely be a buyer's market and it will take a while for sellers to readjust their expectations.

Only interesting Canadian poncho on the list appears to be a 58 Parisienne, with a 348!

The one that has me going though is a 62 Caddy convertible (my favourite year) in Seafoam mist with a white top and guts.  I'd just love to add that example of the "Standard of the World" to my stable.  If the stock market recovers another 3,000 points by Friday, I may just have to consider it!wink

If that's the same one that was there in the spring it's a decent straight car. I checked it out pretty close, it was completely out of my price range but nice to dream! I had a 63 Eldorado convetible when I was a young lad and still love 'em.

Any chance you remember what the reserve was?  Or do you remember approximately what it was bid to?

No Hillar I don't remember. A few guys were commenting on it I overheard, they said around $12-15 K. It needed a bit of minor work, but I would have left it alone as it was very nice and original.I really liked the condition of the sheet metal. I've been told that they are are very difficult car to restore properly and get the body straight, trim correct, etc.
