Depends on your political views I think. In a 5 party system there is little hope for a majority. The BQ has about 50 seats so that means any party needs 155/258 for a majority, that's 60% approval rating, never going to happen!

Harper advanced the ball for another first down, gained approximately 20 seats and 10 in all important Ontario, near bankrupted the NDP and exposed the Liberals as a downtown Toronto and Montreal Party with an embarrassing leader. He's got representation country wide so he has a defacto Majority for a good long time. He's moving towards the goal line first down at a time. On reflection it must be seen what an astute move calling the election was on his part. Two years maybe three more as Prime Minister.
