Canadian Poncho Items Sales Update

First off I want to thank those of you who purchased Canadian Poncho items. Your support is truly appreciated! Unfortunately only 22 members have purchased items so far. I was hoping response would have been a little greater.  I am hoping to sell enough product to cover the cost of the product, set up fees, the logo design, web domain name(which comes up for renewal in Jan), business cards and other expenses that come along with running the site. Once the amount I borrowed to pay for these items is paid (God bless my understanding wife!), any surplus will be put towards other great ways to promote the site. When the site grows in membership we all benefit. I'm sure more than 22 members have found Canadian Poncho an asset in finding information, parts, cars and even making new friends. Since Canadian Poncho isn't a charity, I had to set up my own small business in order to legally sell the items.  It's amazing the amount of time required to get a venture as small as this off the ground! First I had to register a business name and get a vendors permit (we wouldn't want the gov't to miss out on their cut, would we?) and set up a business bank account (and pay those monthly service charges). So far I have racked up about 6 hours of my accountants time learning how to "do the books" (I haven't recieved that bill yet-I suspect they know I'll likely be back for more help!)as well as purchasing (and learning) Quick Books. I also spent a fun filled three hours attending a GST and PST tax seminar on my last day off.  Good thing I did as I didn't realize I had to charge tax on shipping to Ontario residents!  All this knowledge will surely help me if I ever decide to fulfill my dream of running my own automobilia business.
Who would have thought that we'd have over 600 members in less than ten months? As we continue to raise awareness of our great cars, I don't think it is too far fetched to believe that at some point we may see more and more Canadian Pontiac, Acadian and Beaumont-specific items produced. How about a die cast 67 Beaumont SD or 1/25 scale model of a 69 Acadian or 57 Sedan Delivery?  It's not that far fetched and I have already been talking to (pestering?) a number of people trying to make items like this a reality. I can't do it alone. I'm not expecting everyone to buy three shirts, 4 mugs and a keychain. Even 5 bucks for a window decal (that's about the same as a combo at Tim Hortons) goes a long way to ensure we keep up the momentum.

 Thanks guys,

             Todd

Dave

That last comment could be perceived as a negative even though it was well intended!!biggrin

C'mon guys, the other forums I go on work on donations. Todd has refused donations to this point. Let's make sure he doesn't have to ask for them in the future, PLEASE???

I have to say Dave, you're one of the most fun people to kibitz with on here!!!

And you seem like a decent guy in spite of the C***y habit you have.

Now, let's get some sales of this stuff going please guys... We need to save Todd's butt since he spent his personal money on these goodies!

Todd,
Can you give me the details on how to go about purchasing items. Cash, CC, money order. How and where do we make payment.
Always happy to support a worthy cause. Right Guys?!

I think it's great that we can get something in return for our "donation". Some sites do require a donation and others have it as an option with a recognition star. I would not have a problem sending a donation in towards the betterment of the site. Who knows, maybe we may attract some sponsors to help with some of the costs.
I know Todd has approached one supplier who graciously offered any Canadian Poncho member a discount and it is greatly appreciated. I would like to see more myself but I don't expect Todd to just go ahead and do it when he incurrs personal cost. Personally I think Todd should accept donations but I understand his resistance. It was not his reason for starting this forum.
Nobody wants to see costs for placing an ad or drawing from the "knowledge pool" on this forum. I am more than happy to share anything I can with anyone and don't expect anything in return. I also appreciate the help and the encouragement I have received from the great members on this forum. I have even made some new friends and had the opportunity to chat with some others that I haven't spoke to in a long time.
I would certainly miss this site if it weren't here. Just think, where did you get your Canadian Poncho information before this? Yes sometimes it is just a phone call away, but how many phone calls and how much did that cost?

Todd. Thank you for posting this thread. I know it isn't in your nature.

Please post your paypal account. Maybe some people would like to just send a donation.
And thanks again for setting up this forum. You're number1.gif

Brad

I considered myself knowledgeable on Canadian Pontiac oddities until I joined this site. I would say that my Canadian Pontiac knowledge today has increased tremendously since joining.

And some of the info here is even useful!!!!

I second the motion that Todd quietly make the decision to accept our donations if we wish to support him. It need not be him asking for money, just willing to accept it if we are willing to give.

I have NEVER had so much fun on a forum, or learned so much, and I've been on a number of forums in the last 5 years. All but one of them have been taken over by punks or guys bickering about the correct hue of the cad plating on their antenna setscrew... (Sorry about that, John!) (68sd396rag)

John tends to "detail" to the max, thus the little dig in case he reads this!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I am still hesitant to accept donations at this point. We'll see how things go with the swag. As for accepting advertising, that might be an option as well. Jalopy Journal has had great success with their "Alliance Membership" whereas members who pay a fee join the Alliance and in return get a cool looking timing tag and access to discounts from a number of vendors. Keep in mind they have over 25000 members so with that kind of numbers, large companies are more receptive to being part of the Alliance. Perhaps as membership grows we could look at starting something similar.

I just want to say the stuff Todd is selling is great. The shirts are top quality and the sticker looks super! Worth the money spent to support the club.

I agree.

The decals even look good on non Canadian built Poncho's. I think they will even fit a Caddy.
