Dumb question maybe, but I don't know my 50's Canadian Pontiacs that well. Is there a Canadian Safari? I always thought they are US only.

I believe they are U.S. only-at least this one is, A Canadian one would be too cool !

theres also a very decent 55 4-door sedan down here covered in surface rust from Oklahoma, runs drives great, 12,000 miles, no holes $4500

I have a 1955 Pontiac stationwagon sales brochure printed in Canada 5/55 number D2897. All stationwagons built by the Pontiac division in Canada and the US in 1955 were available from Canadian Pontiac dealers.  The Americian built 1955 Safari, 870 and 860 series stationwagons are featured in the brochure with the Canadian built Pathfinder. The Canadian dealers had the option of importing Americian built stationwagons for their customers albeit at much higher cost due to the import fees.

I have a friend whose father was a salesman at Cartier Motors  a GM dealership in the mid 50's who confirmed the availability of the Americian stationwagons in Canada in this era. What the saleman did was show the availability of the Americian stationwagons to the customer than after discussing the price the salesman would move the customer to a Buick stationwagon for the same cost as a Pontiac imported from the US. This dealership did not have any Americian Pontiacs stationwagons on display but if a customer demanded one they would definately get him one. One other thing he mentioned was most of the stationwagons they sold in 55&56 had problems with the rear tailgate leaking water and wind noise.
