Well, don't really want to sell, but can't keep everything.  Have too many other things on my plate.
Its a low mileage original, 83,xxx, 6cyl, 3speed column shift, New clutch and recent brakes. Driven daily and has no issues that I know. Speedo and gas gauge quit working thats about it. Solid floor and trunk has had some minor repair. Basically what you see is what you get as far as the body, Runs Excellant!!  Asking best offer over $3000.    Ken

Man, I'd love to own it as is.
Even if I didn't do a thing to it, just to say I owned one!

Hey guys, I love the 348 409 idea but every time it comes up I ask the same thing....where do you find these puppies anymore ??

That Muscle TV build up showed a place in the deep south that had racks of raw blocks, Vic Edelbrock makes heads and intakes and a 454 crank makes this into 427 CID but we are talking big $$$$ to do it. The TV Motor made something like 490 HP!!

Have a look here for TV motor

That is good info but like I said huge $$$$ to build. Any in Canada, I mean these days $6,000 US is about $7,700 and you're not done at that.

The secret is truck 348/409's are still found cheaply and although lower compression, externally mounted passenger car and speed parts fit and you get the W-motor look but w/ lower Hp..

If genuine performance is the main concern, spend the dough on a Passenger car W-motor but keep in mind when running blowers or superchargers, the lower compression truck motors are what's often used anyway..

I have a '65 Truck W-motor I bought running for $200 a few years back and hope to land it in my '49 Stude pickup before gas is extinct..
Pop a few hoods of 58-65 dumptrucks and old combines etc, although not common they're still out there!.

This is the ticket then... similar to finding a running 454 for $500 in a mid 80's Suburban.

Exactly being 'Burbans and other light duty trucks used passenger car blocks..
70's motorhomes is still a good place to find passenger car Mk1V engines now as some of these are useless to others when the roofs have leaked long enough and fuel being what it costs now..
So keep your eyes peeled...and don't forget the short Turbo 400's that are hooked to them!.

Again W-motors in cars and trucks are the same externally...not like how Mk1V Passenger and actual Truck blocks are different..
W-motor Truck blocks just have notched cylinders to lower the compression but still lotsa' torque!.

Seriously you Western guys need to always check old combines and farm equipment you may see also look for commercial irrigation car-engined pumps of the day for W-motors, Dodge Wedge 413/426/383/440's...and early Hemis too!.

Say you start with a $200 running 409. How viable is a build of that 409 going to be in terms of dollars? Lets face it a small block has more potential as far as HP goes. Those Edelbrock pieces are running 3G's at least. I am not arguing about the retro coolness, I mean nothing looks like a 348/409 and to me it is the logical choice in a car like Ken's 60. Can you use the motor you have as is or would you be wrenching on it?

It was a great runner when I yanked it Ray but I'm not planning on using the big waterpump, intake, distrib etc. and will no doubt have to spend some dough on passenger car parts although won't be buying the Edelbrock piece..
The 'Niner look is really what I'm after more than the performance and would obviously build a SB for less dough if it was..

I popped hoods on every 58-65 trucks I'd see for 30 plus years finding maybe 10-12 W-motors so about one every three years as an average success rate..
Usually they were too much or not for sale...one was free but I never got it in time and the truck was scrapped..

It's just that I've had a stiffy for a '49 Stude pickup w/ a W-Motor since I was 12 years old and what I have now all fell my way cheap so what I'll use if life ever gives me a chance to get it done..
One other piece I've always wanted for it is a 50's Cadillac Batwing Air-Cleaner...any of your Caddy Club brothers have a spare Ray?.

The '60 is way cool and seems like a deal..
It's funny how they were always treated like the ugly sibling of the 59's but seem to look even cooler now...especially as a 2 Dr. Post!.

Wow, that goes against everything we've always been told.

Cool, I love that kind of stuff.

Is it a passenger car block code too?

I picked up a generation iv 454 last year from a 73 motorhome for $500 including turbo 400 with peanut port heads, 8.5 pistons, block out .030, for 461 cu. inches.I really lucked out when I tore into it as it was just rebuilt prior to purchase. Sent the heads back to machine shop for 100 thou. head cut , replaced cam with 284 comp cam hydraulic, changed to beehive valve springs, new edelbrock performer intake and 750 cfm carb, upgraded hei dist. new wires, valve covers, already had hi volume oil pump, all in at $3500, looks like a real torque monster and going into a 64 chevy ii, 2 door post with a clip off a 79 Malibu, turbo 400 and shortened f---d 9". Lots of these are available reasonable and make for a good driver motor.

That sounds like an awesome motor. All I need is a driver, been looking at rusted out but running Suburbans, Dually's and rusted out Motor homes on Kijiji lately but maybe a field trip is needed.
