It is has just past the 11th hour here. This day is special to many of us here since many had family members in the wars. For myself, I had a father in WW2 and his father in WW1. Lest we forget.
Im still trying to figure why this isn't a stat holiday. Theirs a lot to be thankful for and a lot to thank

We have only 1 remaining WW1 veteran in Canada, who was in uniform in the war. And fewer WW2 vets every day. Should be a stat holiday, hopefully it can be. I still say we start a petition.
I was working today at a place where I do maintenance painting . The security staff are commissioners so most of them are vets but did not see war . One of them came and told me Wilf the weekday day shift guy Had just died of a massive coronary . He was a retired marine and one hell of a nice guy . He just celebrated his 60th birthday last week I sure am going to miss him

I'm all for "family day" but wouldn't it have been wiser to make Nov. 11 a holiday? Work was so busy 11 O'clock came and went before I even realized it. It burns me that it isn't a holiday. I'd rather have been either at a live event or in front of the History Channel watching war documentaries.
Those that do not favour having a National Day of Remembrance a statutory holiday strongly believe that the meaning and significance would be lost as the public would just treat it as another day to goof off. There would be no means to ensure that appropriate observances we made. Judging by some things I read on various blogs today there is some merit in this argument. I could not believe some of the opinions held about this day.
I personally don't buy the arguments against a National Day of Remembrance. As a boy it was a statutory holiday, a day off school and our small community within Toronto held and still holds a service which we all attend. What would you expect from a place that has a Dieppe Park, Topham Park, Vicross Road, Merritt Road, Warvet Cres. and Valour Road. I see a resurgence in observing Remembrance day in recent years and it seems to me that our young people from all ethnic backgrounds are involved in this. I don't think it would do any harm if we all wrote our MP's both Federal and provincial and made our feelings known.

Sort of related, Regis Philbin was here on the weekend celebrating Hazel McCallion's birthday. Anyway he took a few poppies back to New York and made a huge deal out of them and expaline dthe significance on yesterday's show. He wondered why American's don't have a symbol of remembrance like we do and he wore the poppy for the entire show. I saw the clip on the news.

Terry Kelly is visually impaired if anyone is wondering why the dark glasses in the video. They used the Colour Guard from our local Legion, Todmorden Branch #10 when they made that. Todmorden was the original name of East York which is now part of Toronto.
