67 SD 396 rag

I e-mailed the previous owner of the project 67 sd 396 beaumont rag that sold on e-bay for $11,000 two 1/2 years ago from N.S. to see where it went. He replied it was promptly paid for but is still sitting in his yard awaiting pick up. I remember him starting the bidding at $4000 no reserve then telling me he sell it at $4500 I stopped for a second due to shipping etc... then it was bid on and he didn't want to end the auction, man had I known he would keep it around even a few weeks/months before I could arrange reasonable shipping-let alone two + years !!!

67 SD rags ? blue one in St Catharines, yellow one that was Bill Brown's now Helmuts in Alberta, Helmut from Kingston sold one to Bill last year that came from NB via Ontario about 15 years ago, this one from N.S.red one posted here that owns my light blue hardtop used to be Carl's, theres one in Ohio-these were all 738 vin's then a 736 vin to Shawn in California

hardtops - I had four-my deepwater blue one, silver one now yellow, white painted light blue, red painted silver, then Tom's blue one, green one in Wainfleet, silver one gone from Welland, maroon one out in Glencoe, black one from Welland-now St Thomas ? Plum one originally red in Missisauga now sold, blue one in Sudbury

I had an ash gold 68SD396

funny they made more 68's yet you see less of them

there was a blue/blue 67SD Ragtop in winnipeg, that was for sale 2 years ago, around $34k if i remember correctly, documented, but NOM. There are no other 67s that i know of around here, there are a couple of 66s for sure...

interesting that the black one is still sitting, thats the one that i grew nervous on being the high bidder until the last minute frenzy, then i was blown out of the water... i think the rail shipping price was around $1500 to winnipeg (68 sd rag on this forum, would probably know who the successful bidder was).

Bill, SD rags 1968 ? other than your 2 and the red one up north I haven't seen any-there was one out west advertised with no documentation and theres 68SDRAG in Winnepeg with one. Theres suppose to be one in St. Anns rusting away in a barn but can't seem to locate it-nearly ten years of asking questions about that one ! but can't give up-found one 67 ht this year that I haven't seen since high school ! (best one yet)

hardtops-mine was the first I'd seen documented but theres a few on here, one in Ottawa, the one out west that was on here for sale

Well its either that or they sell it to a guy like me who pulls it out of the field/barn/garage, cleans it up, markets it properly to a new and caring owner that is very enthusiatic about the hobby and gives the car a new life. But then I get called a pirate for turning a minimal profit. I do love the cars too but need to feed my family.

One of the users on here posted paperwork for a 68 SD-396, white with teal interior. I think he is from Victoria. They are few and far between but I'm sure there are more out there.

Hi Ken, do you know where the blue one from winnipeg went? I'm surprised to hear it was not a verified car, he was certainly advertising as a real SD. I never did go for look, I should have just to see it and write down the VIN just out of interest. Would almost be more interesting if it was another ultra rare BBC 736 SD! Althought the 738's are rare enough!

You won't hear that from me. What's the better option, rotting or being restored? Does anyone make them write the cheque for the car that they want? You know as I do that market value on a vehicle is what one person is willing to pay.

I stated on here a while back that I picked up a basket case 74 SD Trans Am a few years ago. Numbers matching, 1 of 91 in Canada. I got a good deal on it, below current market price at that time. When I sold it last year, the buyer knew very well I was making a good profit on it. He was happy with the deal. Am I an ogre for making money? I turned around and spent that money on an excellent project car that the selling profited a few thousand dollars on just for flipping it. You don't hear me complaining. I got the car I wanted, and paid a price I was happy with.

I would be willing to help some people get their kite off the ground if they complain about someone making a profitwink  Get my drift???!!!

I have been trying to keep track of 68 SD 396 convertibles for over 16 years.
The onlys ones that I have been able to find are the blue one and yellow one
plus the red one that belongs to a member here as well as the white one that
was on the site. I have also corresponded with a person in the Toronto area
who has an ash gold one that is being restored as a black car and a guy in
Montreal who told me he had a blue one but never sent me the pictures.  I would love to hear from anyone with pictures or knowledge of any others.
It also seems that 67 SD 396 convertibles are super hard to find as well.
Ken do you know about the blue 67 that was in Super Chevy years back?

That is the only one I have heard of that you did not mention.

Sorry forgot that one-I still have the magazine with the guy's name in Florida but several people have tried to contact him with no reply. How could I forget that one ! its the most famous ! thats sort of when Beaumonts began to take off in price/demand

the 68 SD rag I mentioned in St Anns was seen by a guy here when he had a clone ht but its over ten years ago and he/we can't seem to fiqure out exactly where-St. Anns is very rural and the car was in a barn, the wife worked at a gas bar, the car belonged to his dad and was very rotton, I even have tow truck driver's working on it but can't find it

the maroon one mentioned might actually be the red one now-same area

Are any of the above mentioned 69 SD rags the yellow one from Winnipeg? I believe it's in the US now, maybe one of the Carolina's? It was originally a 3 speed manual.

Well, what I posted is pretty much what I know-there was a guy here in Fonthill in the mid 1990's with a clone red 68 SD hardtop he was pumping gas in Smithville, the attendant told him her husband had one-he went out to see it was in a barn rotten but a rag top BB still under the hood and not for sale-this guy thought it was beyond back then-I bugged him for years-since I've offered a finder's fee he's tried to retrace his tracks but 10-15 years is a long time-he's a retired GM employee often pedals cars I see no reason for him to fabricate the storey-back in the mid 1990's it wasn't even that much of a find-people really weren't paying attention-I had my 67 SD396 and everyone would say "too bad its not a chevelle !"
