1967-68 Disc Brakes

Does anyone know what percent of the 67 and 68 SDs had disk brakes? It seems that all the 68 SDs I see have them. Was that part of the SD package?
Thanks, James

Tough to read for us over 50, but is it standard on 69 SD only?

Looks like 68-69 SD had them (from the brochures)    My 67 SD conv.  (David Lewis car) had power drum, and they stopped you the first time!!  After that, you were on your own lol

When I first read that question your car came to mind and I figured it had drums. Good thing too. I had my one and hopefully only 4 piston disc brake experience...

By 69 they had it right with the single piston caliper vs. those early 4 piston setups.

My car came with disc brakes however over the last 40 years I have seen a number 68 SDs with drums including a convertible in Woodstock which I passed on for $4500 in about 1991. It was Verdoro Green, white top, white bench seat interior, 350hrs, and as said, drum brakes. The engine in the car was out of a 1969 SD sitting outside of the garage I was at and if I remember correctly that car was sold. The original motor was on the bench behind the car. The 69 by the way was painted red and there was no indication it had been a SD. When enquiring about that car the owner had said it was originally an orange car, upon which I asked if it was the one that sat at the Gulf station on the edge of Woodstock and he replied yes. This car could be floating around at this time as it was in great condition with new paint and a small block. Back to the disc brakes and sorry for the rant, I am of the opinion it was only an option in 1968. Thanks, Doug.

Doug, we are trying to find that convertible you mentioned. I worked with a girl who's dad owned it when it was new. He bought the list of cars he owned from the MTO and it was one of a few cars missing from the list. Any idea who bought it??

Thanks for all the responses. I had read somewhere that only about 3% of the Chevelles got the disc brakes in 1967 & 68. I don't know what % of the SS cars had them. It seems that more 67 & 68 SDs had disc brakes than not. I just replaced my calipers earlier this year because they were leaking. Anyone know a place that will rebuild the 4 piston calipers for a reasonable price?

From what I hear, the best guys to do them are the guys who do all the Vette boys calipers and do them in stainless I believe. Costly but foolproof once it's done I hear.

I believe Bill Brown had supporting documentation for his 67 SD rag that stated 40 cars with disc brakes or it may have been his hardtop that is now in Ancaster.

The green one from Wainfleet has them, and there was one in Cayuga with them
