I remember these, my dad use to tell me how bad these cars were...they got better in the early 80's (Corolla, Supra) with their 22R engines.

I just can't see Japanese cars ever being classics. They have no style, and in those days, no performance.

I can think of some collectible Japanese cars. There was the Toyota 2000GT.
Also the Datsun 240Z
Honda NSX...i think it was sold under Honda nameplate
Mazda had the Cosmo and the RX7
And i always liked the lines of my 87 Celica (body style ran from 86-89)  Might not be collectable yet, but that was a fun car.
Not big block cars, but small, lightweight and nice style.

Would that make me doubly different?confusedsmile
Of course for the type of small engine, style that the Japanese cars compare to, they can't beat some of Europes' classics.  None of these cars compare to North American cars though, unless you get into vehicles like the Jenson Interceptor, Euro style, American muscle.  The Gordon Keeble, limited production Brit car but Corvette power.  Only 100 produced....and one is in Ontario apparently.

One of the most fun cars I owned was an import:

withhardtop1.jpg

withhardtop4.jpg
(The hardtop only went on for storage)
The Spit was fun to drive, easy to work on, got something like 45mpg and the top could be raised or lowered in about 7 seconds. I miss this one. I wouldn't mind a little Alpha Romeo or Fiat Spyder some day.
I think sticking to one make whether it be GM, Ford, Chrysler or Toyota only serves to deprive you of many other great marques out there. I appreciate any neat car, regardless of who built it.

Disposable is the right word!  In South Africa with the 12 seater taxis that can take up to 20 passengers, the Toyota is fair game parked outside your home.  Most parts are interchangable and it is easier to steal one, strip it to keep the taxi going at no extra cost! and leave it for others to pik the bones!

There has never really been an import I can get excited about.

Oh, unless you count a right hand drive A body as an import!

My 85 Corolla GTS was an extremely fun car to drive, and I would consider buying another for the right price. Theres a reason they use them in "drifting" I had to "slow down" to take the second pic.biggrin
