Ask what their labour rates are for mech. and for body. Then we'll know if we should get the second mortgage now or later1

I thought I would bring this post back instead of starting a new thread. Just went to legendary Motor Car last weekend. They have some pretty nice cars there! They had a sweet Beaumont and a Buick GS there as well as some other nice cars. They also started a newer Mustang up in the showroom and then said it was for sale for $80 000.

Ya, that Beaumont wasn't listed on their inventory, I checked a couple of times on their website because it was a really nice car. It was green and if I believe it had sort of a tan vinyl top. Was a 1968 SD 396 I beleive.

When you go there and see the facilities, showroom, etc., add in the celeb status they have from the Speed Channel, then the advertising, throw in some more for documentation, while your at it remember to add 50% for ego, another 40% for rarity plus the fact they don't seem to care about the average guy off the street as they are more interested in pandering to the so called famous, what would ever make you think there is a good deal to be had? It's for lottery winners only, folks!

The green 68 w/white top was there when i was there... it was in for a repaint i think, i have a pic of it from my tour... a heads up to anyone going there, and not going to be able to go all the time, on saturdays they'll tour you thru the shops, not on weekdays... i did chat up the handler for their tv mercedes restoration and he took me thru some of the shops...one had the completed green 68 in it... surprised its still sitting there... i asked the guy for a ball park restoration cost, he said $100,000...i'd assume thats a top to bottom resto on a complete car to start with...

heres the green 68

I was surprised at how they shoehorn them in there!! ...but whatever, this one is 'just' a #'s LS6 car....

I guess I just can't get over how much these cars have risen. When at one time I had my choice of so many muscle cars for under $5000. That bought you mint condition SS cars, Z28's, your choice of big block Pontiac's, etc. They were just used working man's hot rods that by the late '70's very few cared about. A lot of them I paid way less, but mine were'nt in mint condition.
A $100,000 resto on a Beaumont is out of touch in my world.

I agree with you... but people dont work for nothing anymore, never did, but labour rates have really gone up, when you consider the hours it takes to restore a car... its not cheap...you gotta pay the price to hire pro's, a lot of shops would take on a car and let it sit in the corner and work here and there, but they weren't money makers!

There's so much rare iron there, after a while you get numb to it!

I also agree with you eeluddy

and yes that was the Beaumont ak 67sd

Todd- I went on Saturday, I was going to ask if they could take us through the body shop, but never got around doing so. Maybe next time. Along time ago, I offered to work there for full time 6 months for free and they weren't that interested. 1 guy was, but then they let him go and this other manager wasn't really interested.

Hi guys; I have a friend that has sold a couple of Corvettes to these guys which were fairly exotic and he is always reserved as to what he has to say about them. Most individuals I have discussed them with have absolutely been abored as to their business ethics, at least with respect to the TV personalities. I personally liked them on television however I would not personally deal with them. As usual with automotive characters, if its your car its worth nothing, and if its their car its worth a fortune. When you look at their site on line it certainly is impressive. I would certainly think they have a considerable expertise in the high end collectible vehicles they are dealing with and I would personally recommend them for appraisal purposes if the need arises, at least in my profession. Doug.
