Welcome, looking forward to seeing some phots!, good story. You could write a book about what the two cars were up to, inbetween their "meetings" like Anna Sewell did about horses years ago called "Black Beauty"
I like the story. I wish I could run into more 65 Beaumont owners on the road. I rarely see one and at most car shows i'm the only one there. I met a guy that is a original owner of a 65 SD HT. I tried to buy it years ago and at one time had a deal, cheque, car trailer ready to go. I made the mistake of getting it running so I didn't have to pull it on the trailer. He heard it running and backed out. I shook his hand and wished good luck. I don't blame him because I would have a hard time letting it go too. Since then I visit him every now and then. The cars still sitting there with the original hub caps. My 65 Beaumont SD rag top was aquired by chasing the owner down the road till he pulled over. It wasn't for sale and he was on holidays. This car was redone top to bottom and it's the only one I have ever seen in person. Long story short, I gave him a cheque and a bus ticket home. I still keep in contact with him and he's a nice guy. I always felt a little guilty because I bought the car for less than what it was worth. Years later I found a 72 nova ss 4spd and he was visiting. He was in love so I made him a ripping good deal on it. You have to pay it foward and from what I heard his boys dropped a crazy motor in it and are having a blast with it.
Thats the nice thing about a custom model. If I cut up one of my SD cars I would probably be shot. I alway thought a gto or lemans air dash would be a nice touch. Now that you have me on the hook I need to see it. Ican't get enough of these cars. I have a 65 custom that make a great rod project. One day I hope to get to it.
I think a 65 Beaumont custom would make a great pro touring car. Drop in LS-7, 6 speed, Big wheels and a low profile. If the cars already gutted and it's a 6cyl 2 speed, why not? I met a kid that took a real 64 SD Beaumont rag top and turned it into a mod car. Honda interior, cowl hood, and shaved the trim. Ahhhhhhh!!!!! What was he thinking?
I haven't applied for the Gm docks on any of my cars. At $70 a pop that could get expensive. I have a good story for you. I bought a 65 sd Beau black on black from a wrecker in my town 2 yrs ago. I heard about the car 5yrs earlier. Can you believe that I finally got the original motor 2 days ago from the same wrecker. It was buried in tires and one day he remembered where it was and called me. It cost me 100 bucks to get it but now it is a numbers car. Isn't that crazy!
It's a 283, witch hat heads, 2bbl. It still had the old style oil filter on it. Wish it was a special engine option, but it's better than a 6cyl. Where do you get the filter adapters?
I have to admit that I pulled all of the 4spd stuff from a m-20 El Camino for my latest 65 sd rag project. I didn't feel guilty at all. I also hung onto a 65ss chevelle for 8yrs untill I scored my 65 SD Beau M-20 HT. I bought the chevelle cheap, let it appreciate, and sold it to cover the price of the car I was looking for in the first place. It takes a lot of time and work to find these rare cars and at the time I settled for a chevelle,( eww, yuck, cough, studder). I can't wait till next summer, cruisin, burnouts, carshows, sorry I was fading away there.
