I grew up (in PEI) with those kinds of directions, guess we couldn't afford a map.

I don't want to offend anyone, but I got the worst directions while travelling for a week in Newfoundland.

When I asked one guy at a gas station how to get to Conception Bay, the answer was; "There's many ways to get to Conception Bay".
That was it ... nothing more said ... he just kept on filling his gas tank.

Another guy said to me when asked the same question; "keep going on this road, it's like coming home from a tavern".smile

Was you talkin' too me bruder back home, by??? (lol) See, just his sense of humor---You should have asked him for the answer!!!.......And you know, he was correct. There are many ways to get there!! And I am sure the second guy was refering to the never ending winding old roads home out around the bay. That is how you would drive if you were drunk. Did you ever get there? I'm originally from Brigus, Conception Bay and I can understand what was going through their heads---havin' fun with the mainlanders!!! (Eventhough PEI is an island!!)biggrin

I've used GPS a few times when I've been traveling outside my province. It's great if you are completely unfamilair with an area, especially at night, but it often doesn't give you the direction quickly enough, & sometimes doesn't have access to the latest maps. But the worst is that it makes you lazy and not as sharp as you should be. Plus the voice is irritating. I prefer maps.
