royhaslam6.jpgCarl, I know it looks like two different people designed the car, that Rambler front is bad news, later they took the stacked headlights from the Ambassador and put those on the front end. I thought that swooping roofline with the big fish emblem was neat and I like the rear end styling too.

They even found themselves on the ovals of the south.

PS. -22 windchill here in TO this morning with snow covered streets. BRRR

We have a local Rambler guy here. He's tried to get me to like them. He has a nice little American factory 4 speed car that looks a lot like an early Acadian. That's the closest I've come to liking an AMC product. Sorry, but it's hard to flush GM blood out of the system.

I'd agree with that. The one with Ambassador front end that Earl posted is a very nice car imo. It's quirky but I think very collectable.

Well I guess I am swimming against the tide here, but I think the Marlin rear end is one of the ugliest I have ever seen, it is totally out of proportion with the rest of the car. bleh
I don't know how that one slipped by Dick Teague, and I generally like the styling of AMC cars.  I guess the market must have agreed with me, cuz they sure didn't sell a lot of those and the car didn't last too long.....

Hillar, your right they didn't last long in the marketplace. But now they look pretty cool as do a lot of '60's cars. My taste is a little bizarre compared  to most, as I love Avanti's also! confuse

OK, OK, I'll admit AMC styling got a little bizzaro after 73, starting with the Matador, but they still made some pretty neat cars.  For years I tried to find a nice Eagle, but never could and that's how I ended up in Subarus.  That is one segment the NA manufacturers have completed ignored - AWD station wagons - but Subaru, Volvo, Audi, Saab, BMW, Mercedes and I believe now Infiniti as well all seem to think there is enough demand to warrant producing them.  If GM survives long enough, they may get their Cadillac CTS wagon to the market.  Oops! - said that word, don't shoot me yet Carl, I don't actually have one!

I have an number of friends who are into AMCs.  One has 68 Rebel SST, beautifully restored from the ground up.  Warmed over 343, 4 speed, goes like stink.  Too bad he will never come close to recovering what he spent on its restoration.no

Another friend has a 65 Rambler American 327 4 speed and a 72 401 Javelin, I would take either in a heartbeat.  65Camino and I attended an AMC show after the Woodward Dream Cruise this year.  The great thing about AMCs is that it is easy to get into the hobby, the prices both for the cars and the parts are very reasonable (not unlike Canadian Ponchos) as opposed to Ch*vys and Mopars.

That yellow Marlin belongs to a friend in Edmonton. He would have preferred to find one in Canada, but picked this one up in the US. A lot of work has been done to it so far.
